Ari's POV The air in the morning was chilly and frightening, as though people were all keeping their breath. There was wailing at wolves, and yelling, and bewilderment, some wailing even to the point of tears. Harriet was holding my hand very tightly, her little fingers trembling. "Mommy, what's happening?" she whispered. I replied to her, I do not know, and drew her closer to myself. "Stay behind me." But there was this horrible sense of Rylan doing it that something was going to strike us. The guards began blowing the horns once more and shouted, Get to the courtyard! Everyone! Now!" Harriet and I went out and walked toward the large open space inside the parklands. Wolves were side by side; the strain had been great. A circle of warriors went round, and whispers everywhere began.
