The silence that stretched between us in the car was so thick I could feel it pressing on me. She was gazing out the window as London streets passed us in a blur, we had just visited Gabe and Summer. And suffice it to say, watching her trying to control her emotions as she hugged her goodbyes to Summer affected me in the manner it shouldn’t have.
