Arson….
That word kept jumping around in my mind, and the man who walked up to me earlier flashed through my mind.
I did think it was kind of odd that he walked up to me, specifically requesting to know my name, and then just disappeared.
Or maybe I was just reading too much into it.
“If the police are right and it's indeed arson, then it's only a matter of time before we find out who did this and…” I paused, tipping her chin up so she could look into my eyes. “They're going to pay for what they did.”
Her lower lip wobbled, and she looked so damn sad at that moment that I pulled her in for another hug which lasted longer for a couple of minutes before she was called away by a paramedic who wanted to go over her vitals one more time.
