As the car cruised down the highway, I couldn't help but dread heading back to the house.
The last thing I wanted to be after a disastrous night out was to be alone, lost in my thoughts with nothing to occupy me.
I tried to shake off the feeling, but the closer we got, the more the knots in my chest tightened until it was too hard to breathe.
Leaning forward, I tapped on the back of Jake's dear to gain his attention.
Without pausing, he looked up at the rearview mirror. “Yes, ma'am?”
“I've changed my mind, I'm not going home any longer,” I said. “Take me to the office.”
If he was surprised at my sudden change of heart, he didn't show it, simply changing lanes so he could stop at the next interception and drive down to the office.
