Why did you lie?

After I stood up for Nova, Kim had no choice but to retract her statement, obviously confused and a little bit agitated that her plan didn't work as flawlessly as she thought.
While Nova and Dad continued their conversation, I smiled and muttered an excuse, wondering where Kim had gone.
Luckily for me, the kitchen had a straight view to the driveway, and from my position, I could see Kim forcefully shoving the girl she brought into the car before heading to the driver's side to bark orders at him.
A couple of seconds later, the car lit up and they sped out of the driveway.
I slinked out of the kitchen before she got in, grabbing a fresh pitcher of juice so it looked like I had an excuse to walk out.
