Chapter 18

Trent

  I sat there looking at my mate laying in the hospital after the doctor left with a good amount of my blood, but I couldn’t focus. My mind kept going to what happened in the forest while I ran with her in my arms here.

Flashback

  I was running as fast as I could with Inara in my arms. I could feel her breathing on my chest when I heard her whimper and felt her head move. I looked down and saw her blue eyes looking up at me with a smile on her face but that smile could not hide the pain in her eyes.

“You came.” She said sounding exhausted.

“Of course I came. You needed me. I would fly around the world to you if you asked me to.” I said back and kissed her forehead but when I pulled away and looked in her eyes again I saw them flashing like wolf’s eyes do when they are fighting with their wolves inside but this was somehow different. It wasn’t her blue eyes, nor were they silver, or black. They were flashing from her blue eyes to silver, to purple, to green, to yellow, then to black. The f**k kind of s**t is this?

  They kept flashing different colors for a while before I had to look back to where we were going. Then I felt her hand on my cheek and when I looked back down at her, her eyes were BLACK! Then she spoke and I almost fell down with what I heard from her.

“Mate.” She growled at me.

  My eyes grew wide, I mean can they not. She was human or at least she smelled human when I first met her. I sniff her smell that’s all around me and it’s different now. I smell wolf but something else too, there is something else mixed into her smell.

“I’ve been waiting for you to come and take her away.” She says snapping out of my thoughts.

“You’re a wolf.” I say. It wasn’t a question but a statement. Now that her scent was not being hidden I could smell her wolf and she smelled wonderful.

“You can say that. At the moment we are a wolf but later we will be something else. Please protect her till we show ourselves. She doesn’t know we are here for her and have always been here waiting for you to show up and help her.” Ummm… This new showing wolf said what? But before I can ask her anything she chuckles and says.

“You will understand soon. We will talk again soon but please keep her safe. We are too weak to do so at the moment.” I nod my head at her while dodging tree branches.

“Remember don’t tell her about us. Her past is hidden for a reason and it’s not time to tell yet. If you must talk about us to someone make sure you trust them with everything you have.”

“You have my word, my love.” My wolf answers her back showing he had heard everything she said. She just smiles then snuggles into me more and passes out again.

End flashback

  If I said I was not a little freaked out that would be a lie but I was not only freaked out I was scared. For the first time in years, I was scared about someone and something else. 

  I need to talk to someone about all this so I mind link my family to come to Inara’s hospital room, there is no way I am going to be leaving this room till I know she is awake and safe.

  Just as my mind was starting to wonder, my dad came in. He gave me a sad smile and came over to me and gave me a strong hug. He knows how this feels, he has lost his mate, our mom, years ago, and if it wasn’t for my two brothers and the doctor coming in shortly after I would have started to break down right in his arms.

  I have them sit down while we wait for the doctor to the bag with my blood in it started on a drip line. Once he was done he told me what to watch for in case she starts to reject my blood. I nod at him and he leaves.

“Okay, son what’s going on? Why did you call us in here?” My dad asks me.

“Yea, I was about to get a girl to suck me off man.” My baby brother, Mike, says making everyone roll their eyes.

“I need people I can trust to talk about something that happened when I was bringing Inara back here. It was weird and I’m not sure how to process it all.” I reply to them while rubbing my face with both my hands. They all just nod and wait for me to tell them the whole story. 

“Wait, her eyes kept turning colors?” My dad asked while jumping up and walking over to where I was so he could get a better look at her.

“Yes, so you know why?” I asked my dad.

“Maybe, but I want to be sure first. If she is who I think she is then we are about to have a fight on our hands. I thought she was dead all those years ago if this is her…..” My dad stops before he finishes and walks out of the room. Really, dad, you’re going to leave me hanging like that?

“Okay well not sure what that was but I’m a little hurt he didn’t finish before he took off.” Mike says and I can’t help but agree.

“Don’t worry brother we are here to help you out and I know we will figure it out. Right now don’t think too much about anything other than our Luna. She needs you and we all need her.” Keith says to me while patting my shoulder. 

“Thanks, guys. You mean so much to me. I just hope that I wasn’t too late for her. I may not have wanted her before and was fine with how everything was. Hell, I might have even had a small problem with her after I found her but when I saw her on the ground like she was…” My voice trails off as I hear it break from the pain I’m in.

“We know. We know.” Keith says while he and Mike leave the room closing the door behind them leaving Inara and me alone again.
