Chapter 4

~Torrin~ Just like she promised, Lela came to my house right at 5 pm. Her hair and makeup were already done and she had her dress with her in a bag. When she walked in the door, I basically dragged her to my bedroom, shutting the door and locking it. “Woah, what’s the rush?” Lela asks. “You’ll never believe what happened to me today. Go on, guess.” I say to her. Lela raises her eyebrows at me and laughs. “Uh, you got picked to be a head warrior?” “Even better.” “What’s better than that?” Lela asks. I smile at her. “I rode in Cal’s truck today.” I say. Lela’s eyes go wide. “You what?! Oh my goddess, tell me everything. What happened?!” Lela pulls me to the bed and we sit. “I went for a run in town and ran a bit too far. I ended up at the school. I’m in the shade when I run into him, literally crash right into his chest. He catches me, we share an awkward stare and he looked at my naked, sweaty chest. He offered to drive me back to town and when we got in his truck, he asked me if I was gay.” I tell her. “Ah, what did you say?!” Lela asks excitedly. “I was put on the spot and I didn’t want to lie because he’s him and will be the Beta. I told him yes, but it’s not a big deal. Then, out of nowhere, he asks me if I like someone. I brushed it off, saying I have a tiny crush on someone and he asked who.” I explain. “And did you tell him?” Lela asks. My mouth hangs open at her. “Are you crazy?! Of course not! I said ‘no one important'. I called him unimportant without him even realizing. Then, I bought him coffee to say thank you. And that was it.” I say loudly. Good thing my mom isn’t here. “Oh my, this is insane. So do you think he likes you?” Lela asks. “Goddess, no. He was probably just curious because there are no gay people around here.” I brush it off. But he did look at my chest. And I caught him glancing over at me multiple times on the ride. I sigh and flop down on the bed. “Alright, it’s time to get ready. We can analyze how crazy this is tomorrow. I brought the nicest dress I have so help me get in this thing.” Lela says, taking her dress out. It’s a floor-length champagne coloured dress with spaghetti straps. It’s skin tight so I had to zip her up. Then, Lela helped me style my hair back so it wasn’t in my face. I put on my light grey tux and we headed out in my car just before 6, when everyone was supposed to arrive. When we get to the packhouse, I park the car and jog around to help Lela out. She’s wearing heels and this part is all grass. She’s really good at walking in heels, as she wears them quite often, but on the grass, she looks like she’s going to break her ankles. Lela holds onto my arm and we make it to the stone steps of the packhouse. Once inside, music is playing and there are lots of people from other packs here. Mostly Alphas and Betas, bringing their daughters to see if one of them will be mated to Dom. I look around the room and I spot Cal standing with Owen. They’re talking with each other, looking like they’re enjoying themselves. Cal is wearing a black tux with a red bow tie and red pocket swatch. When Cal turns his head, I look away so he doesn’t catch me looking. I don’t want to make things weird now that he knows I’m gay. Lela and I walk in further and we are greeted by some of the people we know from training. Lela breaks away from me and she hugs some of her girlfriends. After some small talk, Alpha Dorian steps up to the front, letting us all know to take a seat. Dinner will be served in five minutes. Lela and I sit with the other warriors who we know and we all have pleasant conversations during dinner. The whole time, I can feel someone looking at me. It’s the same feeling I had at training the other day. Is Cal staring at me again? Why would he? After dinner is finally over, the music tempo picks up and some couples head to the dance floor. Lela smiles at me and I already know she wants to dance. For someone who didn’t want to come, she’s having a lot of fun. I spin Lela around and pull her close to me. Something I’ve done many times. Probably why people think we’re dating. The song plays as Lela lays her head on my shoulder. “Ugh. Great.” Lela mutters. “What’s wrong?” I ask her. “Gamma douchebag is on his way over.” Lela says. I look over and Owen is headed right for us. He’s wearing a black tux too, but he has a dark blue bow tie and pocket swatch. He’s smirking as he makes his way over. “Good evening, Lela. Do you mind if I steal a dance from you?” Owen asks. “Is this you asking or a request from the Gamma?” Lela asks. “Depends on your answer.” Owen grins and holds out his hand. Lela rolls her eyes and takes his hand. “Don’t worry, Torrin. I’ll bring her back eventually.” Owen says. “Alright.” I say. They move away a bit and I decide to head back to my seat. Before I get to the table, I see Jeremy and his mate, Shayla. I decide to go over to them and say hi. "Hey, Jer. Hi Shayla. How are you guys?" I ask them. "We're good. Just enjoying the music." Jermey says. "I can't dance. I can't dance. This pregnancy is kicking my butt." Shayla says. She's about 7 months along with their first pup. Jeremy smiles at her. "I see Lela ended up dancing with Owen." Jeremy points toward his sister. I shake my head. "Yeah, he may have told her it was a request from the Gamma. She can't turn it down." I tell him. Jeremy sighs. "If he wasn't the future Gamma, I'd knock his teeth out." Jeremy says. "Get in line." I mutter. Lela's a good girl and Owen thinks of her as a challenge to be won. Once he gets what he wants, he'll toss her to the side. I don't know how long Lela danced with Owen, but I barely saw her all night, so I stayed around Jeremy. Out of nowhere, I see Cal stalking towards me. He looks pissed. When he is right in front of me, he growls in my face. "We need to talk." He says angrily and walks away. I guess I have to follow him? I look at Jeremy and he shrugs and waves me off. I breathe out and follow Cal out of the dining hall. ---------------------------------------------------------- ~Callahan~ I don't know how the bastard did it, but he got Lela to dance with him. And she looks like she's having a good time. She's been hanging off Owen's arm all night. I've just been standing with Dom all night. Dom has been politely greeting all the daughters of the visiting Alphas and Betas, even dancing with some, but he says he feels nothing for them. Lela and Owen come stumbling over to us and I know right away they're drunk. Where the hell is Torrin, and why is he not taking care of her? Why would he let her go off with Owen? "Hey guys! Is this party great or what?!" Owen asks loudly. "Quiet down, you i***t! My dad will hear you!" Dom growls at him. "Party pooper." Lela says. Dom glares at her and I grab his arm. "Owen got her drunk. She's not thinking clearly. She's not like this. I'll go find Torrin and have him take her home." I say to him. "Yeah, go find your lover boy." Lela says. I whip my head around to look at her. "What?" I ask. "Torrin. Mr Lover Boy. He's been in love with you since we could walk." Lela says to me, slurring her words. My eyes go wide. I think back to today in my truck. Torrin said he's had a tiny crush on someone for a long time, but when I asked him who, he said no one important. f**k. I turn to Dom. "Can you bring Lela to her brother? I need to go." Dom smirks at me. "Yeah, sure." I already know what he's thinking. He already called me out on possibly liking Torrin, and now this? I storm away, fuming. Torrin likes me and he called me not important? He could've said anything else and that's what he said? I scan the room and find Torrin standing with Jeremy and his mate. I walk right up to him and get in his face. He looks a bit scared. It's kind of cute. "We need to talk." I say with a growl. I turn and head for the exit, hoping he'll just follow me. I don't even look back as I head for the stairs. When I get to the floor I need, I turn and head towards my room. I stop in front of the door and turn to see Torrin about ten feet away. He stops. "Is there something wrong?" Torrin asks. He looks good in his tux. But I liked it better when he had no shirt on. "Come here." I say, more aggressively than I meant to. Torrin flinched, but walked closer to me, biting the side of his lip nervously. When he stands in front of me, I open my door and push him inside. "Is this your bedroom? What are we doing-" Torrin starts but I cut him off by pushing him up against the door, trapping him between my arms. I'm taller than him, but not by much. A couple inches at most. We're almost eye-level with each other. "No one important, huh? Is that what you think of me?" I growl in his face. Torrin furrows his brows. "What are you-" He starts, then realizes what I mean. "How did you find out?" Torrin looks at me horrified. "Lela told me." I say. "She would never." "She's drunk." "What?! Lela's never been drunk! I have to go-" "Dom is bringing her to Jeremy. You don't have to go anywhere." I glare at him. Torrin shrinks back. "Listen, I'm sorry you had to find out. I said no one important, so that you would just drop it. We can just pretend you didn't hear anything and go about our lives." Torrin says. "How can I go on knowing you've liked me our whole lives?" I ask him. "Beta Callahan, I-" "Call me Cal." Torrin looks at me confused. This is a lot. I don't even know why I'm doing this. But I need to. Torrin bites his lip. I look down at it and I can't help myself. I lift my hand to his face and I pull his lip out. I'm just going to do it. I lean in and our lips touch slightly. Torrin sucks in a breath and goes to move back, but I still have him trapped against the door. "No where to go." I whisper. I grab his neck and take his mouth in mine. I feel him sigh against me as our mouths move together. I step closer to him, grabbing his waist. Torrin put his hands on my arms. His back arches and he groans. Goddess, why does he feel so good? My body feels like it's on fire where he's touching me. We finally come up from air and we're both panting. Torrin looks at me, his face dazed. I smirk. "Why'd you do that?" Torrin whispers. "Cause it's all I could think about since I saw you shirtless today." I say. "I knew you were looking." Torrin smiles. "How could I not? You're all I look at." I tell him. "Sometimes, I have this feeling that someone is staring at me." Torrin says. "It's probably me. Ever since high school started, you're all I've been focused on. I used to tell myself it was because you're a good warrior and your fighting style is pretty much even with mine, but lately, I'll I've wanted to do is get close to you and feel how your skin feels on mine. I offered you a ride today because I wanted to look at your shirtless body some more. I asked who you liked in hopes you'd tell me a name so that I could get over you and move on. But you didn't. And then your best friend just told me you've liked me this whole time?" I tell him. Torrin's whole face flushes red. "Cal...I thought you were straight. And Alpha Dorian would banish us if he ever found out." Torrin whispers. "I don't date because I don't like girls. I like you. And the Alpha doesn't need to know. I can just feel you here. Behind closed doors." I whisper back. I lock the door and pull him closer to me. I start to back up towards my bed. "This can't be happening." Torrin whispers so softly, I almost don't hear him. "It is. Are you on board, or not?" I ask him. Torrin looks up at me, a smile playing on his lips. "Hell yeah."
