II. Lucid dreaming. Part 4

The wolf pricked my back and rushed in my direction. Terrified, I made a complete turn in the direction of my feet and followed the boy's example. I ran and ran until I couldn't feel my feet again, and my breathing became harder than usual. I went down to the second floor, still with the wolf sniffing my heels, and when I realized that the boy with the scar on his neck had disappeared, the first thing that occurred to me was to go into the kitchen. It was late afternoon and I hoped no one was cooking. I went through the door, without touching it, without realizing it, and I returned to the groggy state I was in when Álvaro didn't notice me when he got out of the shower. The light that came on immediately blinded me almost completely. I staggered to the window at the other end, the one that faces my building squarely, number five, and curiously, the one right in front of my bedroom. I stopped near the glass and advanced until I reached the door. When the automatic light went out, after a few minutes where everything was spinning, I was able to regain the full sensation of my consciousness. I looked in the direction of my room, and there we were: Álvaro behind everyone, still looking for something, shaking his head from side to side; I, with my gaze fixed on the window where I was a moment ago; and Junior, with the phone in his outstretched hand, as if about to take photos. I rectified my posture and looked directly at Junior. I remembered that day then. Ironically, I had scared everyone. I had seen me in the photo and had not noticed my face. I decided to go out through the other door, so at least they wouldn't notice that they open by themselves, but with the first movement I made, the light came back on. Resigned, knowing they didn't see me, I crossed the kitchen from one door to another and left it. He was gone. The wolf was no longer chasing me. "When does this end?", I got frustrated. I returned to my room, mentally tired, but with the energies of a newly awakened infant. I had gone even further back in time and I had no idea how to get back to the present. I waited, after hearing the nervous laughter and gloomy silences that our recent discovery in the kitchen on the second floor caused us, for one of us to come out or come in. Holger arrived just then, with bags full of groceries for the month. He opened the door and I took advantage of the moment. No one could perceive my presence. I went to the window, as I had done before my curiosity led me to building number three, and looked at the parking lot. I closed my eyes as the rest, including me, got on with what was left of the day as they pleased. And I flew. I wanted to get out of there and return to where I belonged. I concentrated as much as I could, and time ran fast. I opened my eyes and saw how everything around me was moving with an ineffable speed. Stains. Everything was moving so fast that it was like being in a painting made by stains and only by stains. The sky turned blue and returned to darkness in the blink of an eye. It made me nauseous, so I stopped it, still not sure how exactly it happened. I lost the fullness of my senses again. Sleepy, I tried to see where I was now. I saw myself lying down, trying to sleep. My roommates were already resting each one where it belonged. I walked around the place, not being careful not to make any noise. "Wow, I think I was right to think that no one can see me." Suddenly Holger began to shift in his bed. "Oh s**t, I think I woke him up," I said, in a barely audible whisper. "Who are you?" He asked, standing up. "I'm Benjamin, Holger," I replied. "Don't be afraid." "Oh hi, Benja. What are you doing there?" He spoke without looking at me, and I was still numb, focused only on him. "Can you see me?" He would be the first to do so, even with his eyes closed. "No," he said, while a sly smile spread across his face. "How do you know where I am then?" "But I can hear you." "Does this happen often?" My eyesight was clearing. I saw myself sitting where I used to try to sleep. "I don't remember," he said, shaking his head. "Every time you talk in your sleep, do you do it with someone different?" "It's not always someone." I tip my neck gently to the left, lost in thought. "What do you mean?" My face was like a smudge in the moonlight. The whole room was still blurry. "To the clothes." "I don't understand, what's in the clothes? What clothes? "He doesn't dress normally. I don't know what it is." He raised his eyebrows, hesitant. "How does he dress?" "I don't remember. But it's not funny." He frowned. It seems that he didn't like to remember that. "How do you know it's not funny if you don't remember?" I saw myself trying to climb out of the cabin, leaning one leg over the ladder, but stopped. I didn't quite listen to what he was saying, it was as if there was a direct microphone with Holger and the rest were muted. "Because I scream when it comes." "You screamed a few days ago when you woke up. It was him?" "Yes." "Have you seen him again?" "No." "Have you seen me before?" I asked curiously. "This way, I mean." "Yes." I saw myself get off and stand in front of Holger. "Where?" "There." He pointed to a space near the desk, right next to the red chair where my backpack rests. "How long ago did you last see me?" "I don't remember." "Ok, never mind." I buffet. As my senses began to regain strength, my other self began to lose patience. "Just go back to bed." "No... give me five more minutes, please." I walked over to him and took him by the shoulders. "Okay." I played along with a sleepwalker. "But sit here." I helped him sit on his bed. Fatigue did the rest. I realized that my other self noticed something unusual. His face wrinkled as if something stunk. I got up and stood in front of him. It looked like a three-dimensional mirror. He made a strange gesture with his face before going back to sleep. I realized what was happening. I had drawn enough conclusions to notice. I was on some strange kind of astral travel. I had read about it before in my youthful hours of curiosity. To return to my body, I only had to find my way through the golden thread. Now that was the problem. Where the hell was the golden thread?
