Chapter 3: A Call

1563 Words
Emma's POV     My eyes strain against the light pouring in through my bedroom window and I groan, rolling over into Noah's side. Closing my eyes, I try to fall back asleep snuggled into him, but after only a few minutes, I hear a faint buzzing from my bedside table. I throw myself back over and grab my phone up, checking to see who could possibly be calling this earlier. I'm suddenly very alert when I see my dad's picture flash across the screen and I quickly and quietly climb from the bed and head out of the room. Just as I shut the door behind me, I answer the call.     "Hey daddy." I say, a chipper tone to my voice. The other line is silent for a second or two before he speaks and his voice is deep and rough, as if he just woke up.     "Hey sunshine." he says. He has called me sunshine for as long as I can remember and it always makes me smile. "I just got a call from Mr. Jenkins and he says he found the files you were delivering in his mailbox late last night. He seemed pretty upset about the whole thing and got on me about you being more prompt. I just wanted to see what happened because it's not like you to be late." I check to make sure everyone is sleep asleep and no one can hear me before I answer him.     "I'm really sorry daddy. I don't know what happened yesterday, but I can promise you that I didn't leave anything in his mailbox. I was at the scheduled meeting spot at exactly 1 p.m yesterday waiting for him, but he never showed. Instead, someone attacked me." I pause and take a deep breath waiting for his reaction.     "What the hell do you mean someone attacked you?!" sleep suddenly gone from his voice as it booms through the speaker into my ear.     "I don't know, daddy. I was waiting in my car at the meeting spot with my gun in the side of my door ready to grab if I needed it like you taught me and the next thing I know, I'm waking up in an abandoned warehouse across town. Some guy in a hoodie was trying to kill me, but I guess he didn't know I could fight because we went at it for a bit before I finally escaped." I can hear my dad's breath coming heavier as the seconds pass.     "I guess that explains why your car is parked at the office." he says, talking more to himself than to me. "Do you know where the warehouse is?" he asks, talking to me now.     "Yes sir, I do. I'll send you the location. How do you think my car got to the office? I figured it was a lost cause and I was just going to figure something out."     "I'm not sure. I'm going to have it dusted for prints before I give it back to you. I'm thinking maybe your attacker drove it."     "Impossible. He had his own vehicle because he tried chasing me down in it." I say trying to figure out how my car possibly got all the way to my dad's office from the meeting spot. That's at least 60 miles between the two places. "I'll send over the license plate with the warehouse location."     "Good. I will figure out who did this and it will be handled sunshine, don't worry. Now tell me how you are? Did he hurt you at all?" his voice is full of concern.     "No daddy, I'm okay, just sore. I've got some bruises and a few minor cuts, but nothing I can't take care of myself." I tell him, hoping to help him relax. "Noah did see some of the marks and asked me what happened, so I told him I went for a walk and tripped and fell, hitting some guy on a bicycle." I laugh lightly at the lie.     "Knowing you, sunshine, that is a very believable story." he chuckles. "As long as you are sure that you are okay. I'm going to have the situation handled immediately. I have a feeling I know who did this, but I'll wait till you send over the information before I take action." I hear a door open and see Liam standing in the hallway looking at me slightly confused.     "Okay daddy. I'll send you all the information and I'll see you tomorrow for dinner." he seems to understand that someone is now within earshot of our conversation.     "Sounds good sunshine. Have a good day and I'll let you know if I need anything else today. Love you."      "Love you too daddy." and with that I hang the phone up and greet Liam. "Morning bud. You're up early."  I glance over his appearance quickly, thankful he put a shirt on before walking out of the room.     "Uhh yea.." he rubs his eyes. "I really just got up to pee, you're the one up early." he looks me over, still in my clothes from yesterday evening.     "Oh yea, sorry if my talking woke y'all up. My dad was just calling to make sure I picked up his dry cleaning yesterday and got my car to the shop like he told me to." I quickly lie to him; he's a lot easier to lie to than Noah. I start to walk back to my room.     "Nah, you didn't wake us up. Like I said, I really just got up to pee, so I should probably do that before Amber wakes up and wonders where the hell I went." he laughs, his voice still saturated with sleep and turns to go into the bathroom. I walk back into my room and quietly close the door behind me and go over to my bed. Just as I pull back the covers to climb in, Noah rolls over, half asleep and gives me a strange look.     "Where were you babe?" he asks, still very groggy. I get in the bed next to him and pull the covers up over us and snuggle into him.     "Just to the living room. My dad called and I didn't want to wake you up." I lay my head on his chest and lean up kissing his jaw lightly. "Let's get a little more sleep and then we'll find something to do today." His hands begin roaming over my body before he places on under my chin and tilts my face up to his and captures my lips in a heated kiss.     "How about we find something to do right now?" he asks, pulling away briefly. His lips crash back into mine and in a matter of seconds, I am straddling him , the heat growing quickly between us. Our clothes are hitting the floor and I moan out in pleasure when he pushes himself into me and begins rhythmically moving in and out. We enjoy a good morning quickie before crashing back on the bed, sweat covering our bodies and hearts beating rapidly.      "Well good morning to you too handsome." I smile over at him laying next to me trying to catch his breath, a grin covering his face.     "Damn baby.." he sighs rolling onto his side and wrapping his arms around my waist. "I love you E."     "I love you too babe." I smile and kiss his cheek. "I'm going to go take a shower and get dressed for the day. Wanna join me?"     "Hell yea baby!" he practically jumps from the bed and I follow behind him as we make our way to the bathroom. We take a quick shower, enjoying a little shower s*x before actually cleaning ourselves up and getting out. Towels wrapped around us, we walk back to my room and get dressed for the day. Even though it's as hot as the devil's breath outside, I grab a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, wanting to keep as many of the marks on my skin covered as I can. I know Noah saw them all in the shower, but thankfully he still believes my story from last night. Once we are dressed, we head out to the kitchen to have breakfast while we wait for Amber and Liam to wake up. Noah asks me about the call from my dad and I tell him the same story I told Liam earlier and he seems to believe that lie right along with all my others. We both eat a bowl of oatmeal with fruit and when we finish, we clean our dishes. Going into the living room to sit on the couch, Liam and Amber finally walk out of their room, both still half asleep. Liam walks straight to the kitchen and Amber plops down on the couch across from Noah and I, yawning loudly when she does.     "No one speak to me till I have my coffee." she demands. "Liam, hurry the hell up with my coffee!" she screams at him in the kitchen. We all burst out with laughter as Liam makes his way back into the living room with her cup of coffee, sitting beside her and pulling her into his lap.
