Chapter 6: A Drink

1513 Words
Emma's POV     Not wanting to be around anyone at all for a bit longer, I decide to walk to my dad's office hoping it will help calm me down. The walk is about two miles and I find myself only become more anxious as I walk, constantly checking over my shoulder, the feeling of eyes on my back. After what feels like a lifetime, I finally reach my dad's office and hurry through the front entrance, pausing for a moment at the receptionist's desk.     "Hey Mrs. Veronica." I say trying to catch my breath. "Would you mind calling up to my dad's office and telling him I'm on my way up and it's urgent that I speak to him now?"     "Sure sweetie, but he is in a very important meeting right now. He should be finishing up soon, though." she says, trying to hide the alarm in her voice. She has worked for my dad for as long as I can remember and she knows I would never disturb my dad at work unless it was an emergency.     "I'll take the stairs, so he has time to finish up the meeting. I could use the workout." I reply, attempting to make lite of the situation. "Thank you ma'am. I'll see you on my way out." I smile before walking away to the stairs at the end of the room. I take the stairs two at a time, eventually reaching the 12th floor. Very much out of breath again, I try to pace myself and make my way to my dad's large office. I knock lightly on the door, praying he has finished up his meeting at this point.     "Come in sunshine." he calls from the other side of the door. I gently push the door open and take a careful step into his office, keeping my head down, afraid that if I make eye contact with him, he will see the fear in my face. "What's going on? Veronica called and said it was urgent and you didn't look good." he stands from his chair behind his desk and walks over to where I am standing, still in the doorway. Stepping around me, he shuts the door and then pulls my into a hug. "Talk to me sunshine."     "She's back." I say trying to disguise the trembling in my voice. He places a hand under my chin and pulls my face up to look at him, confusion written all over his face. He looks over my expression and the words and my face finally click together in his head and anger takes over the confusion.     "What the hell did she do to you?!" he pulls away from me to get a better look at my face and tries to control his anger. "Tell me everything." he says, his voice a slight bit calmer.      "She showed up at the cafe and requested my section. No one knew who she was, so they just did it. I tried to be professional and just ignore her, but she started acting like this perfect mom and when I rejected her and kicked her out, she said I would regret my words. I figured she was just here for money again, but something was different this time. And then I made the mistake of walking here and the whole time I felt like someone was following me. Maybe I'm just overreacting, but I'm scared dad. Her threat was more of a promise than anything else and I can feel it in my gut that something is going to happen." I ramble on, my fear taking over and making it impossible to stop talking.     "Hush now sunshine." my dad wraps my in his arms and rubs calming circles on my back. With my face pressed into his chest, I let the tears I've been holding in flow freely, soaking his shirt. "Carla will never hurt you and after today, I can promise you that she will never see you again. I'm going to make a few calls and get her taken care, so don't worry." his voice more controlled now as he talks reassuringly to me. He continues to hold me for a few more minutes, before he pulls back to look at me. "I'm going to deposit some money to your account and I want you to go out with your friends and have some fun. Don't even think about what happened and just focus on you." he smiles at me and kisses the top of my head.     "Thank you daddy. I don't know what I would do without you." I reach out and give him a tight squeeze. Just as I pull away, his phone rings. He quickly pulls it from his pocket and answers.     "Just the person I am needing to talk to." he says as he places the phone to his ear. "Emma, sunshine, I will get it all taken care of. One of my drivers will be waiting for you downstairs, so go on home and have fun tonight and I will keep you updated." he says to me, pulling the phone slightly away from his ear and then immediately going back to his call. I turn and walk from the office and head to the elevators, not wanting to take the stairs this time. I quickly reach the bottom floor and as I walk out of the elevator, I pull my phone out and call Noah telling him to meet me at my apartment as soon as possible. I wave to Mrs. Veronica as I walk past her desk, placing my phone back to my ear, calling Amber. I tell her that I will be home soon and then we are going out on the town tonight with the guys, so she needs to call Liam and start getting ready. I climb into the backseat of one of my dad's car and the driver starts down the road towards my apartment. Pulling up and placing the car in park, I quickly climb from the backseat and thank him for the ride before shutting the door and hurrying to my front door. Since Amber is home, the door is unlocked, so I just walk right in and plop down on the couch. A few minutes behind me, Noah and Liam come walking through the door, not bothering to knock. Seeing my face, they all 3 come to the living room and sit around me, Noah speaking first.     "What's wrong babe? I thought you were working all day and the next thing I know, you're telling me to come over and Liam is telling me that we are all going out for the night." he places a hand on my knee and rubs soothingly.     "Carla showed up at my job today and tried to be super mom and when I shot her down she threatened my life. It really messed me up, so I got sent home form work early and went to see my dad. It was his idea for us go out, he wants me to get my mind off things." I say with very little enthusiasm. Out of everyone I know, these 3 right here are the only ones who know the truth of who my 'mother' is. They know about everything she has done and said and all of what she has put my dad and I through.      "I swear to God, I'm going to get my hands on that monster and handle her myself!" Noah growls standing quickly form the couch and pacing the floor.     "Hey calm down now, man. I'm sure her dad has it under control. You know how he is about Emma. I wouldn't worry too much." Liam tries to calm Noah, unsuccessfully. Amber stands and comes over and hugs me tight.     "We'll get you good and distracted tonight, hun. Screw that b***h and all her drama. You are too good to have to deal with her shit." she smiles warmly at me. "Now let's get you all sexy and go party!" she grabs me up from the couch and drags me to the bathroom, doing my hair and makeup before picking out a slutty dress from her closet for me. Once we are all ready to go, Noah calls for a taxi to drive us since we will all be drinking.      After a good four hours at the bar, we finally get a taxi and head home. Noah and Liam didn't drink much since Amber and I were drunk in a matter of minutes it seemed like. Once home, we have to be practically carried in and put to bed, too drunk to even function properly. Laying in bed next to Noah, I drunkenly profess my love to him and try to get him to make love to me. After multiple failed attempts, I end up passing out on his chest and the feel of his warm arms wrapped around me, helps me stay in a peaceful, dreamless sleep.
