Amelia’s POV I marched over to the wardrobe and yanked the door open. The king nearly toppled out, looking entirely unbothered, his arms crossed casually as he leaned against the inside. “Really? A rat?” he said, his lips twitching with amusement. I scowled at him. “I had to say something! You almost got both of us caught!” He stepped out, towering over me with that maddening smirk on his face. “I told you,” he said lazily, “a king doesn’t hide.” “Well, this ‘king’ would have gotten me beheaded if Clara had found you in here!” I hissed, poking a finger against his broad chest. He only chuckled, the deep rumble of it vibrating through the small room. “I like it when you’re feisty,” he teased, leaning in dangerously close. I stepped back immediately, putting a hand up between us.
