Alex’s POV
I was heading to my room when a pair of strong hands yanked me into the shadows.
My back hit the wall hard, and instinctively I reached for the knife tucked at my waist, until I caught his scent.
Kai.
I flicked the light on, my pulse still racing. He stood there, chest rising and falling like he’d just run through fire. His eyes were wild.
“What the hell, Kai? You scared me.” My voice came out sharper than I intended.
He raked a hand through his hair, pacing the small space like a caged wolf. “Alex, I think I messed up. I did something I’m regretting already.”
My stomach twisted. “What is it? Speak to me.”
He stopped, his jaw clenching. “I told my grandfather, Alpha Daemon, that the queen is still alive. That she’s being held captive by the king.”
