Chapter 19

372 Words
The two days at Enrico's estate felt more like an agonizing sentence than a chance to heal. Every moment was a reminder of the words I'd spoken, the emotions I'd stirred, and the guilt that weighed heavy on my heart. Zane, Ryder, and Min-Woo seemed to be everywhere, their gazes like silent accusations, their presence a constant torment. And Daniella, well, she was just another complication I didn't need. I longed for the comfort of my own home, hoping that once I returned, the turmoil within me would somehow dissipate. But instead, it only seemed to intensify. Matteo, with his keen perception, seemed to sense that something was amiss. His concerned glances were enough to make me squirm, to make me wish I could disappear into the shadows. Thankfully, Alessandro and Giovanni remained silent, sparing me their usual relentless interrogation. Their silence was a relief, a small respite in the midst of the chaos swirling around me. I knew that if they chose to press me for answers, I would crumble under the weight of their scrutiny. Then came the soft knock on my door, a gentle rap that shattered the fragile peace I had managed to cling to. Daniella's entrance was unexpected, her presence unwelcome. But despite my inner turmoil, I plastered on a facade of indifference, masking the turmoil raging within me. "What happened to you?" I couldn't help but question, irritation lacing my tone. She was not one for niceties, never bothering with formalities like knocking before entering. "Nothing," she replied nonchalantly, taking a seat beside me as if we were old friends. "I just thought you might be upset about this too." Her words grated on my nerves, and I couldn't resist rolling my eyes at her transparent attempt to feign concern. "Are you here to mock me, or is there something actually important you wish to discuss?" I demanded, my patience wearing thin. I had little tolerance for Daniella's pretenses, her self-righteous facade grating against my nerves. "I wanted to talk to you about Enrico," she finally admitted, her voice tinged with a hint of apprehension. Enrico. The mere mention of his name sent a shiver down my spine, stirring a whirlwind of conflicting emotions within me.
