Hello Future Beta

1377 Words
It's been a few weeks now that I've been living with Jess. We had a set routine. Wake up at 6am to eat breakfast before she leaves for work, shower, workout in the basement (she let me convert her basement into a homemade gym), run at the field (i started walking there by myself), come home, shower again, get dinner ready and eat dinner with Jess, watch tv and go to sleep. We've been doing this everyday for weeks and it felt nice. Jess barely gets off, and it's sad, she is so exhausted sometimes that i carry her to her bed after falling asleep watching tv. Today was her first day off in a while and I thought she was just going to stay home and relax but I was wrong. “ZARA! DO YOU WANT TO GO TO THE FARMER MARKET WITH ME!” - she yelled towards the basement. Even with my headphones in I could hear her loud and clear. She yelled like a drill sergeant. “YES, GIVE ME A SECOND TO CHANGE” - i loved matching her energy. It reminded me so much of Alyssa. I shower and get changed. I put on some nice jean shorts and white tee with a black baseball cap; Jess was wearing a yellow sundress with flowers on it and white sandals. She looked like a breath of fresh air. We drove a few minutes then reached the market, and it was beautiful. Fresh faces, fresh fruits, fresh air, ugh it just felt nice. Something is wrong. I stop walking after we passed the first stand, Jess is searching through the strawberries trying to find ones that were absolutely perfect. Jess didn't sense us being watched like i did, i'm looking around but don't see anyone, not yet. Something is wrong. Now i have not met anyone from the pack, i stay indoors mostly but even after these few weeks, i have not met any other wolves. And that's what was watching us, me. Jess finishes up and grabs my hand to walk to the next booth, but when she notices I dont move she follows my eyes. There was a wolf standing in the tree lines, blending into the environment around it, a black tall wolf. “That's the future beta, Logan” - she whispered, scared like she’ll be caught sharing precious information. The wolf clearly sees us staring at it, and nods its head. He descends into the woods and comes back out a minute later dressed in normal summery clothes. Some khakis and a black tee shirt. He's making his way over to us, me. “Jess, go to the car, if i am not there in 15 minutes you leave, got it.” - I say without breaking eye contact with this new stranger ... .Logan. Jess walks back to the car and waits, she watches me watching him. I start walking towards him. We met in the middle of the open field that was behind the farmers market. We stand a few feet from each other but I can still feel his aura of authority pulsing through the air. I keep my scent hidden, I don't know what his plan is. “Hello” -i start the conversation since i've got a timer going. I know I can still feel Jess’s eyes on me. He looks up and down, checking me out, maybe I am a threat or maybe I am just cute. Aha “Hello, I am Logan, future beta of the Red Moon pack and you are in our territory” - that voice made me want to melt like butter. “He smells devine, let me out” - Maze practically panted. “No, and shush” - I pushed her back. I don't need to fight anymore here with her on the loose. “I am sorry beta Logan, I am here visiting my cousin Jess” - then i look over at Jess, now sitting with the car on, my timer is running thin. I think he knew I was lying but I doubt he’ll call me out. “Oh Jess, the nurse at the human hospital, yes I know her. I didn't know she had family outside of this town. Welcome. You two should stop by the pack house tonight and join us for dinner before the full moon.” - and boy i knew that was not a request. That was a demand. Well, I guess we don't have to cook dinner tonight. I smile and nod before turning around and walking to the car. Jess was about to pull off before seeing me jog to her window. “Soo….. guess who's going to the pack house for dinner tonight.” I tried to smile but her face made such a sour look, I couldn't help but laugh. She didn't even say anything, just unlocked the door and drove us home. Home…. Still hurts but I can't be weak, not now that the alpha will be expecting me. We cleaned up, showered and got dressed into some decent clothing. We are not there to impress, we are going there to show I am not a threat to them. I stare in the mirror, wearing a maroon dress with some black boots and I have my hair down with some bobby pins stuffed in it to keep it in place. As I walk down the steps I see Jess, wearing a pink knee high dress with some white heels. “Okay, damn girl, who are you looking good for?” I say jokingly. Jess jumps when she hears I am now in the room. She didn't reply, just blushed. So there is someone. She grabs her purse and locks up as I walk towards the car. “Can I drive?” - I say using my puppy eyes. “No” - quick but deadly. Mazzie is laughing at me, she knows I knew the answer already but I still tried anyway. The drive to the pack house was too long for me, I couldn't get the anxious butterflies out. We pull up to the big gates, and wait for the warrior wolf guarding it to allow us in. After talking to Jess and confirming we were inviting her, we drove in. Now this place was beautiful. “Wow,” I said in awe. “Yeah I know, imagine living here” - I wonder if she used to. She finally parks and we walk up to the front door, we are greeted by a maid who points us in the direction of the dining room. There are people everywhere, and they are obviously having fun. Living room, second living room, game room, and a huge dining hall all full with happy, healthy wolves. This was a party to celebrate the full moon. “Welcome, please come sit” - an older gentleman says as we enter the main area of the dining room. He is the alpha but i don't think he is alpha Elijah, i've seen pictures, now they look similar so it has to be his son. Jess and I sit next to each other on the left side of the table, Alpha is on Jess’s right at the head of the table and all his respected members are seated on the right side of the table. Before I could say anything, I felt a movement on the side Jess isn't on. A little girl. Mhm, a little girl with beautiful black hair, freckles on her nose and big doe eyes, sat next to me at the dinner table. “Please excuse my daughter, she is excited that we have guests. Annabeth, please come sit with me” - the Alpha cause Annabeth is frown, she didn't want to move seats and that was fine. “It's fine, I don't mind”- I answer with a smile. I turn to look at the Alpha, before speaking Annabeth slides her hand into mine on my lap and holds it, a good firm hold too, i smile at her and hold it back. God i miss my siblings, this makes my heart hurt but i know its not her fault.
