Madison’s POV
I had a sensation that someone was kicking my legs. “No wonder you had an impoverished life. It is already 10 AM, yet you are still lying down there.” I rubbed my eyes to clear my vision as I saw Zachary from a bottom, attempting to kick me once again if I didn’t prepare myself to be situated.
I promptly straightened myself up to sit down. “What am I compelled to do now?”
“Your grandfather is downstairs. Rehabilitate your appearance first before going downstairs, you look exceedingly ghastly.” He walked off the room.
I survived one evening with this ruthless soul. As long as I am not interfering with his circumstances, I will pull through this, even when sleeping on his floor left me with an acute backache. Anyway, why is Charles here? Is he visiting me?
On my way down, I can overhear Charles and Zachary’s discussion.
“Thank you for this check. This will be deposited right away. By the way, where is your father?” Charles' tone of voice screams joy because of the money he clasps because of me.
Zachary’s phone abruptly rang in the middle of their chat. “Excuse me for a while, I need to take this call.” I took the chance to show myself to my grandfather.
“What are you doing here? Did you come to scrutinize your relative that you simply tossed away for money—the capital for your failing company?" I folded my arms upon asking.
“I see, you became lionhearted toward me since you are not under my control anymore.” He chuckles in amusement while looking at me directly.
“Just so you know, I came here to take receipt of the full payment from Zachary, not to have sight of how you have been doing.” Why did I ever anticipate him looking after me?
“There should be an update to my father’s case by now. Aren’t you going to present any?”
“Like how it has always been, no leads and further updates.” That is what he always says, nothing changed in his script.
“Is there really an actual investigation going on?”
“Are you doubting my capabilities?" He raised one of his eyebrows while displaying an annoyed stare.
“You cannot blame me for being skeptical. Two weeks have transpired, yet you have nothing?” Every second that passes, the higher the risk of peril to my father’s life, which makes me more enraged.
“Will you please run off from here? I appeared to secure the money, but you keep messing with my jubilation.”
“I hope you can also bring great pleasure to me, as I am the reason for the triumph of your company.”
“Sorry for that distraction, it was from the office. I need to go now. Mr. Stanford, will you go with me?” Zachary walked in on the spur of the moment.
“Definitely, I would love to pull out of my beautiful granddaughter’s presence.” Charles then walked outside the main door without looking back.
“Hark back to what I told you yesterday evening. I have eyes everywhere.” Were the last words of Zachary before pulling himself out.
I plumped myself on this soft white sofa.
Dad, where are you? Are you still alive? I miss you already.
Dad has only been my parent and has supported me at the very best he can. My mom, who is Charles’ daughter, died two years ago because of a myocardial infarction, basically a heart attack. No one expected it because she was totally healthy. Our family is not as rich as the people who are surrounding me now. Charles never intended to help mom with her expenses because mom declined his proposal of an arranged marriage, which I don’t know further about.
“Ms. Madison, sorry to disturb you, but a group of men in black are making a scene outside the mansion. They are screaming your name and demanding your presence. What would you want me to do to them?” Who could be willingly interested in visiting me, and how on earth did they find me in this mansion? I just set foot in this mansion yesterday.
“Let’s go, but keep the gates closed to ensure our safety.”
The guard accompanied me as I saw three black men in suits, with the dominant one being in the middle, and behind them was their black glossy van on the other side of the gate.
“You can now leave me here.” I insisted he leave, as he is certainly not needed in this undisclosed conversation. He might just spill it to Zachary.
“I see, Ms. Madison, living in such an alluring mansion might be so cozy for you. How did you flirt with Mr. Ferguson for him to get you to live this luxurious life?” The one in the middle removes his shades and divulges his full face as he taunts me with his words.
“Do I know you?”
“Won’t you let us come inside first?” He replied with a strange smile.
“Why would I trust someone that easily?”
“You conceivably are not conscious of my existence, but your father was. We are the Black Dragons, the most dangerous Mafia in town. By just saying that description, you must have a hint as to how potent we are.” I am now invested in this discussion and, at the same time, frightened.
How can dad be related to these kinds of people?
“What kind of business does he have with you?”
“You see, I am mindful that your father is missing, but I need my money to be paid in two days. Your father has a debt amounting to $100,000, and I need my money back.” I found myself on pins and needles as I heard what he uttered.
“W-Why and how did he have that amount of debt to you?” Dad never mentioned this to me. It blew me awake to the circumstances of a new issue arising.
“I am ignorant of how he threw my cash away, and I don’t care how you will give the money back.” He chuckled, and the men on his back showed their laughs as well. I looked at the guards behind me, and they were just looking at us vacantly.
“Obviously, you’re rich, and since you’re his only daughter, you have inherited his debt, and you have to pay me back in two days. Besides, it looks like your life has touched up so far, you can noticeably reimburse it.” He assertively said. If he just knew how I am pulling myself together to survive every day.
“What if I can’t?” My heart raced so fast that I could not think of a way to pull through this.
He shrugged both of his shoulders and said, “Since you are embraced by numerous guards, then I found a substitute to kill, your innocent best friend, Maxine.” He showed me a picture of her, proof that they were following her and knew her whereabouts.
