DAY FOUR Anna ’ s snoring like a bloody elephant when Keith wakes up next morning. She ’ s so loud, in fact, he wonders if her noise might have been what woke him up. He ’ s slept a little better, though he still seems to wake up more tired each morning than when he fell asleep. He gets up quietly, so as not to wake her, and checks all the windows. It ’ s all clear outside, as far as he can see. There ’ s one body tripping through the distance, a dead kid, he thinks, but that ’ s all. He decides to risk going out – he doesn ’ t have a lot of choice – but he finds a much nearer tree to pee against this morning. When he gets back – relieved in more ways than one – he looks around the cluttered park-keeper ’ s bungalow dejectedly. The thought of spending another day trapped in this cramped
