The Attack

993 Words
The Lunaris pack had just withstood the most devastating attack. Buildings had been burnt and destroyed, it lay in ruins. They had lost a lot of warriors. As Isabella walked through it all, her heart was heavy. They had defended their home with everything they had and yet it lay in ruins. Lives lost and families left to begin to pick up the pieces of their lives again from scratch. The healers did their best to attend to everyone who needed attending to, but even they were beginning to be exhausted as they worked tirelessly round the clock. The attack had been too precise to be taken at face value. As far as she was concerned it wasn't a random attack. She believed it wasn't a rogue attack. They are dealing with a much greater and powerful enemy. She searched immediately for her father and found him at the central post near the pack's entry. He was with some of his best warriors. His posture was rigid, as he stood looking for survivors. She walked up to her father with slow but deliberate steps. “Did you notice anything unusual about the bodies?” Isabella began, her fathers face darkened immediately. “Now is not the time, Isabella.” She didn't mind her father's dismissal but went ahead to make her father pay attention to what she was drawing his attention to. These wolves were definitely not acting of their own will. He looked sharply at her but before he could respond, a sudden wave of nausea came over Isabella. In that instant she noticed she could also hear distant voices from afar as if it was right in front of her. She turned in the direction of the voices, they were secrets being whispered but she could hear them clearly. Her father watched her, concern clearly written on his face. Isabella tried to make sense of what was happening to her at the moment but she couldn't, all she knew was that she definitely wasn't feeling good at the moment. Her father immediately sent for the best pack healer. As soon as she came, she ordered that Isabella be taken to her hut immediately. Lydia Ravenshades' hut smelled of herbs, the small lighting providing enough light for the small hut. Isabella didn't like the look in her eyes when she examined her, as it meant that something terrible was wrong with her. When Isabella couldn't bear the way she was looking at her with so much fear, she just said to her. “Say it.” Lydia hesitated a bit and Isabella, not comfortable anymore with the silence and wanting to get whatever it was over, shouted at Lydia to say whatever it was. “You need to sit down” Lydia said “I won't” Isabella snapped “Just tell me.” The silence stretched, heavy and suffocating. Then Lydia exhaled, her voice low. “You’re pregnant.” Lydia said. Isabella was shocked to hear that she was pregnant. She didn't even want to believe it. “This cannot be possible” she thought in her heart. She looked at Lydia questioning her with her looks and Lydia nodded her head understanding exactly what Isabella was silently asking. Her hands began to shake, she held unto the table as everywhere seemed to be spinning at the moment. “No Lydia, it can't be possible. At that moment it all began to make sense to her. Her fight with Tristan in the woods, the Blood Moon and the strange connection. Her heightened senses, the vision, the child, The Pure Alpha. Her knees almost gave way but she held on tightly to the table to help keep her balance. Lydia stepped closer calling out to her. “Isabella” Isabella shook her head. “No.” She couldn’t be carrying the child from the prophecy. Isabella was truly afraid for the first time in her life as she didn't know how she was going to explain this. Isabella paced in her room, the fire that was lit in the hearth in her room did nothing to calm the chilly feeling she was experiencing inside of her. She paused close to the window, looking outside and wondering how she was going to cope with this new status as the only thing she had known all her life was how to be a warrior. Now, all that is about to change. Her only weapon had been her strength as she had battled against the odds to prove herself worthy to her packmates and had earned their respect but this battle was one she didn't have the slightest idea how to fight. As she placed her hands on her stomach she knew that this child growing inside of her, The Pure Alpha was already rewriting her fate. She also wondered what her father's reaction would be if he hears that she's pregnant. She knew the answer already, he would see the child as a threat. As a stain on the pack’s honor, and Tristan, she shivered as thoughts of what they had shared began to form in her head. Her breath seized at the thought of him. Did he know? Could he feel the same pull that she did? Or Maybe he had forgotten about her. Isabella had never feared anything in her life, as a warrior she always knew what to expect but this is completely different. Just then she heard the sound of fast paced marching along the hallway outside the room and suddenly her door was flung open, it was her father. From the moment Lydia had told her she was pregnant, she had dreaded this moment of confrontation with her father. As he stormed inside the room fuming with anger. “Isabella” he shouted His eyes blazed with fury and Isabella didn't need anyone to tell her that her father already knew and that a storm was about to erupt.
