It was a delicate balance, but Nick was getting better at remaining close enough to his sisters to suit Charlotte’s notion of propriety while maintaining enough distance that she didn’t have many opportunities to pester him about dancing with some eligible heiress. As Charlotte was currently speaking to an expensively dressed young woman, Nick decided that now was not the time to ask if she needed anything. Violet was dancing with a gentleman Nick recognized as a friend of Beresford’s—Lord Furstow or some such thing—and likely would be provided with refreshment by Beresford or his friends.
