Chapter 19
Nick increased his pace as he reached the stables and turned right to take the faint path that led to a little-used gate. Finally he and Matthias would have the chance for some privacy. He assumed, he hoped, that was the reason for the note he’d received from Matthias that morning. Fortunately, all his sisters were occupied with preparations for the trip, so there was nothing to keep him from the appointment.
As he passed the stable and rounded a hedgerow, Matthias’ coach came into view. Nick managed to keep from breaking his stride, but couldn’t prevent a smile and a shiver of delighted anticipation.
