Chapter 20 Nick paused in his walk from Dover Castle long enough to draw in another deep breath of the fresh, salty air that seemed to engulf the entire town. It was pleasant and invigorating, although not exactly calming, and it was the sea’s calming effects Nick felt he needed now, having been angry and unsettled since the he’d stepped—jumped—from Matthias’ coach. He’d been hard-pressed not to bark at the surprised expression on the face of the farmer whose cart he’d flagged down for an uncomfortable ride back to Steeplesands.
