“Jessie!” I jumped and dropped my math folder. Mr. Litmen bent down, collected my strewn papers, and then handed the folder back to me. His gray eyes pierced mine. I swallowed my saliva down, which clogged up my throat. “How about I accompany you to your next class?” Without waiting for a response, Mr. Litmen showed me the way with his hand. “After you.” My lips sewed up tight and my ears heated up like a stove top. Pointless excuses swirled in my head to escape the awkwardness between us.
