Chapter 33 Charity had given up, but they had not. They’d come back for her. Charity sat in her father’s lap, arms wrapped around his neck in a near chokehold. His cheek, scratchy with days of unshaved stubble, warmed her skin. He whispered little bits of nothing into her ear, disconnected words and sounds of comfort.
