Max-
Emma's friend Charlie is walking with me to my next class. She's talking about Mrs. Newman and what they have been working on in A.P. Literature. I'm trying to pay attention, but all I can think about is the conversation. Had I said something to embarrass myself? I think I blacked out. I can't remember what I said for sure. There was something about Matthew and Austin? I don"t know. All that I can think about is her eyes.
"So where are you from, Max?" I suddenly hear from Charlie. "Oh. I'm from Texas." I say distractedly. "Why did you move schools? I would think with this being your senior years and all your parents wouldn't want you to move. It just seems weird to me. I'm not trying to intrude or anything." Charlie rambles.
"I don't have parents." I say. "My aunt raises me. She has all my life. I don't know why she made me move schools. No offense, but I likes my old school. I had friends, but one day I came home and she was packing. She just told me we were going to Washington and to start packing." I say.
"I'm sorry about your parents." Charlie says looking sad. "It's okay,"I said. "I never knew them so my aunt is basically my mom."
We stop talking as we walk into class. "Hello Mrs. Newman. This is the new student, Max. He can sit by me if he wants." Charlie says to the teacher. "Well that is a nice offer, Charlie, and thank you for introducing us." Mrs. Newman says "I will take you up on that offer. It is nice to meet you Max." She says looking at me. "Nice to meet you too, Mrs. Newman." I say.
Once we get to our seats Charlie starts talking to me again, but I get distracted thinking about Emma again. I wonder if Emma is thinking about me. I turn to ask Charlie about Emma, but she has a blank look on her face. Suddenly she raises her hand. "May Max and I be excused please." Charlie asks. Mrs. Newman looks about ready to say no, but she gets that same blank look on her face as Charlie had. "Yes, You both are excused." she says.
