Chapter 3

354 Words
I'm Mika, I'm twenty-four, and I live with my tribe on the sunny coastal land of the Gagfonia tribes. Our people farm many fruits and other food. Closer to the ocean, they also fish and other work that help all the tribes survive. We are a very connected society because we all depend on each other to live. Every tribe has their own way of helping, and not one job is more important than another. We are all equal, and every person is valued here. We all take care of Mother Earth, and in return, she takes care of us. When I was young, I spent most days in teachings and learning the way of our people. You start out learning stories from our elders and finding the lesson from them, I always love it when my grandma was story telling because she made up funny voices to go along with the character's. When you're older, the teachings are put into our real life. I would get frustrated sometimes because if you didn't prove you had learned the teaching in real life and prove it to your teacher, you couldn't move on. I would always overthink the lesson and therefore complicate my reenactment for the teacher, and on some, I'd be stuck on some for weeks. My brother Michael, on the other hand, flew through teachings and was the youngest of our tribe to become a man at age 16. Then he chose to follow in my father's footsteps and farm the fruit fields. He also found his soul mate early, too. My brother and Michelle have been connected at the hip since they first laid eyes on each other. They met at our tribe gathering when they were six, and our elders all say they came from the stars together. Me, I've been distracted from finding my soul mate by the nightmares. I feel it's my calling to warn my people of the dangerous things happening with the people in my dreams. Otherwise, maybe the tribes of our planet could be doing those awful actions that the people in my dreams are doing.
