The Dark Night

I woke up sweaty, tired confused while my body was tangled in sheets. The sun rays were shining directly to my room and yet I could not see anything. My hands felt weak and shaky. Confused as to where and when I got there I tried to stand but my head pounded so hard I lost control of my feet. Immediately my father ran and held me. “ Sweetie don’t push yourself so hard I am here do not be afraid Daddy is here,” he said as he let me sit on my bedroom chair. I felt as though I had woken up from a long terrible nightmare. He handed a drink over to me, “take this you will need to recover all the energy you lost,” he said. I looked at him and you could see how utterly confused I was by his reaction. With my shaky hands, I took the drink and took the first sip; I spit it out immediately was the worst thing that I had ever tasted in my life. The drink was slimy, bitter and too hot. I gave it to my dad and placed my hand on my neck to search for my necklace. I love my necklaces they help me when I feel anxious, confused or afraid. I could not feel it nor find it. Shiver ran throw my spine and I became cautious and shocked immediately.” Where is my necklace? I cannot find my necklace. Where is it?” I said while I began searching for it fast and hysterically not waiting for my answers from Dad. I now began to scream and shout while my dad began holding me tightly but I was too strong for him. As I shouted my grandmother and Lucas walked in real fast and held me so tight I could not let go. “ Emmy! Emmy baby listen to me.” my grandmother said calmly. At this point I was tearing up because my necklace was the only hope to find out about my mother, it was my only connection to my mother. “Why did you give her the drink, you know the drink has a calming effect,” my grandmothers shouted at my dad who was still holding the drink staring at me in dead silence. ‘I..i..I did,” he stuttered. I did not care about any drink I just wanted my neckless. “ My child here is your neckless,” my grandmother said. “ We kept it safe for you during the transition, we knew that the black blood would have stolen it or even someone around you, last night..’” “ Stop it grandma, stop it with the hiding, with the secrets, with stories on transitions, just stop it. I want and need to know the truth here and now,” I yelled. I was tired of all the suspense and all I wanted was the truth nothing but the truth. ************* The moment I opened my eyes; it all came rushing back. The previous night was wild and unreal. I remembered the sharp pain as the claws were tearing through my fingers, my feet being raised from the ground by a strange force slamming back down with a heavy thud. I was not screaming I was just howling. My skin! Oh God my skin had sprouted thick white fur. Right there and then, the full moon revealed itself, It cast a silver glow over the whole forest. That is when I saw her- no longer frail or with the bend – my grandmother, a powerful wolf, strong but still beautiful. And Lucas transformed before my eyes. Shifting into a werewolf with so much strength. His posture was like a soldier ready to go for battle. He looked so glorious. One by one, little by little, the wolves began appearing from the shadows circling me till there were hundreds of them; it was like a ritual and I was the center of it all. There and then. They began to chat. Luna!Luna!Luna. To outsiders, it might have sounded like a chorus of a pack of wolves howling through the night. But I heard it clearly and felt it deep inside my bones. Just as they were chanting, the chaos began. “Well! Well! Well! if it isn’t the Luna and her little friends. The voice loud yet calm slithered through the clearing like a smoke- smooth, mocking laced with menace. “Finally we meet again after centuries of silence. You must have missed us,” he chuckled darkly “And as for us? Not so much,” From the rustling bushes, and shifting shadows a tall figure emerged, A red wolf emerged. His eyes burned red and his presence silenced the howls. From behind, his pack followed. Each one mysterious and monstrous than the last. Their arrival caused tension and a sickening feeling that spread through the whole forest. The howls kept going silent and silent and the tension grew harder and harder. The very air grew colder and heavier. “we’ve come for the reunion,” the red wolf sneered. “Centuries we’ve waited… and waited so …..”His grin widened, exposing rows of jagged teeth. “ Where’s the real party at? ” Before anyone could respond he moved swiftly next to me. He was so fast that he moved past the whole pack that was protecting me. Including Lucas. “ Kye stay away from her,” my grandmothers shouted as she jumped next to me ready for war. In a heartbeat, their bodies collided mid-air with a thunderous crash, fangs snapping, claws slashing. In that moment the pack exploded into deep chaos each ready to protect their master. The wolves growled, circling unsure whether to attack or retreat. But my grandmother was stronger, faster and smarter. Within a second she had nailed Kye to the ground with her dangerously sharp claws, her jaws on his throat. His growl was low but firm and final, “Leave ! Now!” she growled. “ Rose you don’t know what you are getting yourself into,” Kye muttered as he looked at my grandmother. He bared his teeth, blood tricking from a fresh wound, my grandmother, Rose, let him go. With a small nod, he signaled his pack, the red-eyed wolves slinked back into the shadows, their snarls fading into the distance. Complete silence took over the forest. Rose bent down to pick up my necklace that had fallen on the grass during my transformation. She turned to Lucas, her eyes still sharper while her voice was gentle but with urgency. “ We do not have much time,” she uttered, “ They will be back and next time they won't come to talk,” As soon as Lucas held I transformed back to my human body and lost cautiousness.
