Stillwater Pack

Adrian POV Once the sun began to go down I took my beautiful sleeping mate in my arms and made my way home. I placed her in my bed, intending to continue our nap, when I received a link from James. “Is now a good time Alpha?” I looked down at the beautiful woman asleep in my bed and sighed. I would have to get back to work eventually. “Yeah, give me 5 to change out of my winter clothes and I’ll be right down.” I opened the door to my study to find James waiting for me. He smiled when he smelled my mate on me. “I told you so!” He said triumphantly. “Yeah, yeah, yeah. Get to the point.” I teased back. His face turned more serious. “ I followed the tracks Katrina left in the snow from that night like you asked. And you’re not going to like what I found.” My wolf began to pace in my head, already wanting to go and find the prick who called himself her father and rip him to shreds. “Her tracks led to the quarry south of here. Adrian, she was part of the Stillwater pack.” I had had my suspicions. The Stillwater pack was notorious for their outdated way of life. I had heard rumors of their behavior, but I hadn’t realized how bad things truly where until I found my mate. I grimaced and went to the map we kept on our wall. I traced the road that connected our lands with my finger. To think she was just on the edge of our territory all this time. She had been suffering, and I had been just out of reach. I was overwhelmed by guilt. If only I could have found her sooner. I couldn’t focus on that now. I needed to keep my girl safe. I took a deep breath and turned to face James. “Are they looking for her?” “They appear to think that she died sir. I watched them for several days. The Alpha seemed very annoyed that she had disappeared. I think he’s who she was calling father judging by how he responded. However, he had very little confidence in her ability to survive without his protection. They stopped looking for her the day after she disappeared.” My blood began to boil. They couldn’t even be bothered to try and find her. They were perfectly content to let her freeze in the snow. How could he let a member of his pack die like that? A child who he had taken in and called his daughter, but I couldn’t be to surprised. After all he was the man who had allowed her to go through what she had. “James I want you to keep tabs on their pack.” “Already on it Adrian. I have Carl and Desmond on surveillance. They’re the best I have, as you should know.” I smiled at this. Carl and Desmond where twins. They had a natural aptitude for tracking. I had a soft spot for them as I had been the one to train them. I knew how capable they where. I trusted them to handle this task. What would I do without James. He kept my head on straight. He was the best Beta a guy could ask for. “Thankyou. Also, Im sorry to ask, but do you think you can continue taking care of Alpha duties for me? I’m going to need to continue spending as much time with Katrina as I can. She’s getting better, but she still has a lot to work through.” He winked at me and replied, “For you boss? Anything.”
