Michael
Diana’s moans rose in the middle of the dark room as her body loomed over mine; her lips were slightly parted, her skin bristling with arousal; a thin film of clean sweat covered her skin, and under the moon’s glow, her body seemed made of silver and mist.
The tone of her voice dropped. She reached her fourth or fifth orgasm of the night and collapsed on top of me. Her skin, warm and moist, pulsing dizzyingly, her chest against my chest; her pulse against mine, and she tucked into my arms as I ran my fingers down her back, kissing the crown of her head.
“God... That... That was...”
I smiled and left my eyes fixed on the ceiling, feeling her breathing, which gradually calmed down. She lay languidly on top of me, relaxed as my fingers ran over her, and I smiled, tucking her body into mine. I felt different, somehow, but not tired--quite the opposite. I could go on all night, but I knew her body was human, and we had probably reached the limit of her strength.
But she didn’t make it easy for me to resist the temptation. Her lips found my chest and she began to kiss the scars within her reach. She rested her chin on her hands, whose palms rested on my heart, and looked at me with interest.
“What are you thinking about?” she whispered as she looked at me curiously, and I couldn’t help my gaze from lingering on her face.
I always thought Diana was beautiful, but I guessed I didn’t know the reality of her beauty, naked, with disheveled hair and the scent of s*x and rain wafting over her skin. This was how only she showed the reality of her beauty, and a part of me pitied the rest of the world because they would never be able to see what I saw: The reality of her beauty, which was masked behind every day, was like a flower that closed its petals before the world and opened them for me, alone in the middle of the night.
“I was thinking of a poem I read a long time ago,” I affirmed, as I tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear. She looked at me, raising an eyebrow, obviously interested, and I whispered to her. “I would like to talk about you at all hours in a congress of the deaf, show your portrait to all the blind people I can find. I want to give you to no one so that you come back to me without having left.”
Diana smiled, her cheeks with a light tinge of color that could be perfectly attributed to the encounter we had had.
“Who is the author?” she asked, her fingers tracing circles on my chest.
“Jaime Sabines,” I answered.
“I didn’t know you liked poetry,” she whispered, and I shrugged.
“I’m not a lover of it, but it was a part of my life.”
“When?” Her curiosity was evident, and I couldn’t help but respond without filtering my words.
“Long ago, when I met Anna,” I affirmed.
She stirred on my body, visibly uncomfortable. Her lips puckered into a slightly bitter expression and she murmured.
“It’s not a subject to take to bed when you’ve just made love to another woman...” I saw her avert my eyes and then I remembered her jealous nature. Without being able to help it I kissed her on the lips, drawing her face to mine as I held it between my hands, firmly, but gently, and luckily, she did not resist my touch.
“That’s not what I meant. It’s nothing I’ve dedicated to Anna before, but I used to read a lot of poems back then. It was a time in my life when I tried to be better, to educate myself more than my humble cradle allowed me,” I said, and her eyes sparkled, again interested in my story.
“You haven’t told me about your past,” she stated carefully. I imagined trying not to let my words get away from her.
I allowed her to settle into my side as I wrapped one of my arms around her. The sheets lay somewhere, stretched out on the carpet so that the moon illuminated her bare, perfect skin.
“Not much to tell, I guess. I’m an orphan, so I grew up in an orphanage, where I knew Damien when we were both just kids. We ran away when we were sixteen and started working on our own with whatever we could,” I affirmed.
“Oh, Michael, I... I didn’t know...”
“That’s all right,” I affirmed, looking at his face in consolation “It was a long time ago now. It’s not a wound that remains open.”
“And how did you meet Anna?” she asked then, curiosity overcoming her jealousy. I smiled and while stroking her hair I allowed my mind to go back and tell her about that part of my past.
“It was thanks to her father. He found Damien and me surviving on what we could, but he soon realized that we were two smart kids, and he gave us a chance. He educated us well. He was a merchant who moved between continents, so he made us study for years mathematics, languages... Anna was his only daughter, heir to everything. A beautiful young woman, I must admit, but also, extremely conceited. Only now can I see how blinded I was by her beauty, and how little she really had to offer,” I affirmed, and Diana sort of pouted. I took her by the chin and pulled her face up to mine, seeking her lips. “You have nothing to envy her,” I said, “her beauty can’t compete with yours.”
She stared into my eyes and smiled slightly and the blushes returned to her cheeks.
“Did you love her?” she asked me, her voice sounding like a whisper.
“At first, I thought I did. Anna was different from everything I knew at the time. She was an aristocratic girl, to put it mildly, so she was educated, and very intelligent, but also, extremely cruel. She knew how Damien and I felt about her, but she liked to watch us play off each other to try to curry favor with her. She usually gave hope to one or the other, just to keep us fighting for her affection a little longer.”
“That’s horrible,” Diana said, visibly shocked.
“I didn’t understand it at the time. I was young and thought I was in love. Only now do I understand how wrong I was,” I affirmed, and then I moved to her side, seeking to lie on my side while embracing her naked waist and pulling her to me.
She settled easily against my body. Her legs wrapped around mine, her warm palm resting against my chest and her spring eyes fixed on mine.
“I had no way of knowing then what real love was, and how it could change your whole world; I didn’t know what it felt like to be enchanted by a look, what it was too long for the sound of a voice, of a laugh; the pleasure your own name could cause when pronounced by the right lips...” I let my fingers wander, as they lost themselves in her cheek, and she sighed, following the rhythm of my hands.
“I didn’t know what love was until I met you,” I affirmed, leaving my gaze fixed on hers, with her orbs of green and gold lost in mine.
Diana took a sigh, and then another to process the weight of my words, and as her mouth sought mine. I received her with pleasure, allowing her breath to mingle with mine, her sighs to find me, and the breath in her chest to quicken because of all that was in this kiss, all that I couldn’t say, because words couldn’t express it.
“I love you, Michael Beck,” she whispered against my mouth, and once again, she got me, as our bodies shifted positions, with me yielding to the temptation of her scent.
She sighed, her hands clinging to my back and her legs spread for me, as her ankles tangled in the small of my back. I could feel the change in her breathing, as her body matched mine, settling in with easy skill, and as I felt myself awakening, unable to resist her, her breath, her scent, her taste... her essence, which penetrated to the depths of my being, making me realize that until now, I had been the one walking blindly through the world.
