Three

What feels like a lifetime later the ambulance finally stop. There’s a brief pause of silence before the doors are ripped open and the rest goes by in a blur. The high blood sugar is causing my brain to fog in and out. We get pulled out and the wheels lower below and then we’re off. Words are spoken but they go in and out. Nothing seems to make sense and everything is blurry and my body aches. I hear the sound of doors swishing open and more yelling from what I can only assume to be doctors. They surround us and more run by hopefully to get Alvarez from Sealy’s SUV. My arms cry out, telling me they need to move. That they are done being in this position, but I keep fighting. Knowing I’m the only thing keeping Nash from bleeding out is a wild ride. One I hope to never be on again. Everything flies by and the next thing I know someone is telling me I did a good job and I can let go. But I can’t. “I’m the only thing keeping him alive.” I don’t realize I’ve said it out loud until Nash responds. “The doctors got me now Ash, you can let go. I’m not dying today.” I look up and see multiple people, and I realize were in a closed off room and people are poised for when I finally do let go. It takes a few seconds for my brain to connect with my hands, but when it finally does I slowly lift. People rush in and I lean back. Someone grabs me from behind and I’m lifted from the gurney. “You need to get checked out.” A new voice says from behind. “I can’t leave.” “He’ll be okay, you did everything you could. Now they need to do everything they can.” I can hear the words but they don’t register. My knees buckles and before I can warn anyone I’m going down my eyes close and everything fades away
