Chapter 4

Alpha Cains pov

I was sitting in my office going through what felt like a million reports. I sighed and brushed my fingers through my hair. I loved being an alpha but sometimes the paperwork was so wearying. 

"Alpha there's a female intruder in the area, Alpha Lee has also turned up but has stayed on his side. I'm joining Leon and Tyson for backup" reported my beta through the pack mindlink. 

"OK Jack bring her back for questioning, what are your perceptions of her do far?". 

"so far she seems to be low threat and has possibly crossed over by mistake, I'll let you know when we are nearly back" 

I trusted my beta completely, Jack had proven to be a true friend and an excellent member to the pack since he had joined 10 years ago. 

It was unusual to choose a beta from someone that had joined the pack but he had become my best friend and was a loyal fierce warrior and was very clever. I couldn't of chosen better. 

I pushed the reports aside, no point going back to them it wouldn't take long for them to get back, plus viking my wolf was restless. 

"alpha we're nearly there" Jack reported over the link. 

I got up and walked out of my office to the front door. I walked out and saw Jack and the others draw near. 

The she wolf looked young, but in a dirty ragged state. She seemed to be small and thin with long black hair. Why was she in such a state?. 

As I walked nearer to them I noticed a smell, I sniffed the air. I could smell the most wonderful smell of strawberry and spices. My wolf biking stirred in my head and started to bounce around. 

As I got closer to the girl the smell got stronger, but I noticed something appeared to be wrong with her. Her dace was pale and sweating and she seemed shaky on her feet. 

I looked her in the eye and I felt lightening "mate" screamed viking  I growled out "mate" unable to stop myself. She looked at me shocked before a blank look came into her eyes and she fell forwards into a faint. 

I rushed forward and picked her up, Jack touched my arm "your mate?" he questioned with a shocked look on his face, I had been looking for my mate for a long time. I nodded in reply and ran towards the pack hospital with Jack following. 

I mindlinked the doctor on call to be ready for us. When we got there doctor Jenson was there ready with a trolley and two nurses. 

" alpha Cain put her on the bed please, what happened?" 

Jack explained about her crossing the border, about her making odd noises when touched and that she had passed out after getting back to the pack house and finding out I was her mate. 

"we'll take it from here guys, and don't worry alpha we will be careful with your mate" said the doctor looking at me reassuringly. She pushed my mate into a room along with the nurses, leaving us to wait outside. I went to follow them in but Jack put a hand on my arm and said " Cain it's best if you let them work". 

"OK you're right" I conceded. I sighed and walked over to the nearby seats, Jack sat next to me. 

"soooooo erm she's your mate then" Jack said looking at me. 

"yes, as soon as I got close I could smell strawberries and spices and viking went mental. Jack I've been looking for her for do long and she was just over the border. I don't understand I've been there a few times but have never seen her before. Plus why is she in such a state. What has been going on over there?. I finally find my mate and something is wrong"

" I'm sure she will be fine, it could just be the worry of being questioned and thinking she may be in trouble" Jack said whilst putting a comforting hand on my shoulder. "Cain there's something unusual about that she wolf" 

"what do you mean" I asked Jack. 

His brow scrunched up "well she reminds me of someone that was special to me, someone I've not seen in 10 years". 

Before I could ask him about it the doctor came out. "alpha now I know she's your mate so I need you to stay calm" 

" why what's wrong I said with alarm in my voice, viking whimpered. 

" well alpha this girl has been through the mill. Her arm appears to be broken, some ribs are possibly broken, her leg has something wrong as it's swollen, her body is covered in bruises old and new and what appears to be whip marks and she looks malnourished plus with her lack of healing I suspect wolfsbane. I don't know how she walked here to be honest. We're going to do some blood tests and xrays to properly work out the damge". 

As the doctor reeled off the list of injuries I felt my rage rising, who had done this to my precious mate. 

Just as I was about to explode I felt someone touch my arm, I turned and saw my sister Tess with tears in her eyes. She must of heard the doctor. I calmed myself in the face of my sisters grief, she hugged me saying "oh my god Cain what happened to her"  she stepped away and Jack came over and hugged her, he is her mate and it helped calm her. 

"unfortunately I suspect someone has been beating her" said the doctor. " I'll get on with the tests alpha, don't worry we will make her better" the doctor walked back in the room and then came back out with my mate on the trolley. I looked at her poor broken form praying to the goddess that she will be ok. 

Viking just howled in my head in pain promising to kill whoever had done this to her.
