## Chapter 5: Unspoken Thoughts ##
The early morning sunlight poured over Erin's workroom like a gentle golden veil. She stood where the sunlight poured down and looked at the pastries she had crafted with a sense of fulfillment within her. Although everything here was still unfamiliar to her, she had tried her best to incorporate the baking skills she had brought with her from modern times into the customs of this foreign world. Every process, every detail, was a reflection of her seriousness about her new life.
Erin caressed her handmade pastries, each cake and cookie carefully polished by her. She knew that these delicacies were not only her contribution to the world, but also her bridge to this strange land. Her skills had been recognized by the villagers, and their appreciation and praise gave her some comfort, but she still felt uneasy because she knew that the arrival of the Duke would mean a change in things.
When Duke Castiel walked into the village, his presence caused an uproar. His golden hair glistened in the sunlight, and his deep blue eyes were as cold and full of majesty as the infinite ocean. His caravan drove slowly through the village, and everyone who passed could not help but hold their breath. Irene stood by the window of her studio and watched the scene with apprehension and anticipation.
That night, the Duke himself came to Irene's studio. This arrival was clearly more than just an ordinary inspection, and there was intense interest and scrutiny in his demeanor. The duke's guards and a court chef followed behind him, seemingly curious about Irene's pastry skills.
Erin perked up and prepared for the Duke's arrival. She put on her best clothes and tried to remain as calm as possible. She knew that this visit was not only a test of her skills, but also a test of her hidden secrets. Her insides rippled, but she knew that she had to remain calm.
“My lady,” Duke Castiel said as he entered the studio, his eyes sweeping around, ”I have heard that the pastries you make here are very unique and mouth-watering. I was hoping to observe your production process for myself.” His voice was low and magnetic, carrying an authority that could not be denied.
Erin bowed slightly, maintaining her politeness, “Your Excellency the Duke, you are most welcome. I will do my best to display the best skills I can.”
The Duke nodded and signaled his guards and the chef to keep their distance while he himself approached Ayrin's workbench. Erin felt the Duke's gaze fall on her and tensed. She knew that this moment was not only a test of her skill, but also a test of her hidden secrets.
The duke's eyes swept over every tool and ingredient on the workbench like a searchlight before landing on the pastry in the making. His gaze was filled with curiosity and interest. While focusing on the work at hand, Irene noticed the duke's blue eyes lifting from her workbench every now and then, watching her every move. She knew that the Duke's interest was not only in her skills, but also in her mysterious background.
The Duke began to question Erin in detail about every detail of the pastry making, “The ingredients in these pastries are very unique, how did you mix these flavors? Why did you choose this type of decoration?” His voice was thick with curiosity, clearly filled with deep interest in Ayrin's skills.
Erin tried to answer his question in as concise and unobtrusive terms as possible, “The ingredients were chosen based on the fruits and flowers that were in season, and I tried several combinations before I finally found a recipe that balanced the flavor and appearance. The decorations are then done in such a way as to make each pastry look more attractive.”
The Duke listened with a satisfied smile on his face, “Your explanation was clear and your skills are quite advanced. This makes me even more interested in you.”
As the production process progressed, the duke's curiosity seemed to intensify. From time to time, he asked Ayrin about some of the difficulties and solutions encountered during the crafting process. Although his questions were full of curiosity, there seemed to be some kind of deep meaning hidden behind every word. While Irene was answering, she was struggling inwardly. She knew that she had to be careful to keep her secret while at the same time trying her best to satisfy the Duke.
When the production was over, the duke stood aside and looked at Ayrin with admiration, ''Miss, your pastries are indeed amazing. I am deeply impressed by your skill and meticulous craftsmanship. I hope you can continue to maintain this level.”
Irene revealed a polite smile, but complex emotions were surging in her heart. She knew that the Duke's interest in her was more than just an appreciation of her skills, it was more likely to hide a deeper intention. Her secret was still not exposed, but she knew that it might not last long.
Just as she was about to pack up her workbench, the duke's guard handed her a letter. The letter stated that the Duke wished to meet with her again in the near future in the evening to discuss some details about her skills. A pang of unease flooded through Erin's mind, knowing that this meeting might bring more challenges and trials.
She took a deep breath and prepared herself for the coming unknown. Her heart was filled with anticipation and unease, and only time would reveal the truth of what was to come. Erin knew that every step she took would determine her fate in this otherworldly world, and that every appearance of the Duke could bring new changes.
