We made haste up the mountain until we reached a huge waterfall. “Drac fly high until I call you.” I followed Stephen. “We need to swim underneath the water to the other side!” without pause I jumped in and started to swim, he followed quickly behind me then he grabbed my hand and pulled me along so I didn’t get washed backwards. After a minute of being under water we came up in a huge cavern, with at least 50 swordsmen all pointing their weapons at us. “Fools it is me and this is the new rider.” “A girl? You must have finally lost it elf.” A dwarf laughed loudly then suddenly without warning Drac flew in with Brom and his roar filled the cavern and had us all covering our ears. “Do not insult my rider dwarf, for I shall make a meal of you and your men before one hair on her head have even moved. There are an army of Kull 2 days from here so shall we plan to stay alive to fight or shall you all die here where you stand?” His voice was pure strength and power, huge doors opened behind them to reveal a city built into the mountain. As we stepped into the sunlight I could see people coming straight away and the whispers begun. I was taken to the leader of the Varden a man called Ajihad; he was of dark skin and stood nearly double my height. “Welcome rider, I am leader of the Varden and this is king Hawthor of the dwarves.” Ajihad took my hand to shake while the Dwarf king just kept looking at me like I was a puzzle to solve. “I am Eve and this is my dragon Dracona, where is Brom? I wish to see him.” “He is with our healers, they will make him well again I promise. Now I hear that there is Kull on the way?” “Yes Dracona, told me this morning so we had to make haste to reach here. I do not mean to be rude but I have been travelling for many days and I would like to know if there is somewhere I can freshen up.” “Of course, my daughter will show you to the rider’s homes. Please join us for dinner.” That’s when I first noticed her, a young dark skinned girl dressed in men’s armour she smiled sweetly at me and I liked her instantly. Once outside she finally saw Drac, she bowed in greeting. “Rise Narda daughter of Ajihad. Thank you for helping my rider.” Drac allowed her to join us on a flight up to the rooms; our room overlooked the whole Varden. “Once these rooms were filled with riders and their mighty dragons but for so long they have been empty, only now may we come out of the shadows and welcome the newest rider and her dragon. May the stars watch over you.” I smiled at her as she turned around and left. I had a hot bath to wash away all that had happened in the last 10 days; just as I was getting out there was a soft knock on my door so I quickly wrapped myself in a cloth and answered the door. King Hawthor stood there, he looked at me with a mix of embarrassment and wonder. “I am sorry to catch you like this but I was wondering if we could speak freely between ourselves?” I opened my door for him to pass into. “Of course your majesty but I fear that I will not be able to answer many questions.” He laughed, “Firstly I would like to say I am sorry this has befallen upon you and not because you are a women but for your age, but secondly I would like to thank you for coming and joining us here. I have known Brom now for many, many years and believe me when I say he will be back to his normal annoying boring self soon enough. I would like to show you around my hall someday when you would like, there are many beauties down there, much like yourself.” “I would love to see your halls but I fear that with the Kull on the way there might not be a chance before they come.” I bowed my head; he lifted my chin so we were at eye level. “You do not need to bow to me Eve, you are a dragon rider and it is not right. I will send up come of my kin to fix you some clothes and my smiths will tend to your armour as well as your dragon.” Without thinking I threw my arms around his neck and hugged him. “Thank you so much.” Then I realised what I was doing and stepped back, he smiled warmly at me then quickly left. I sat alone with Drac until we were sent for to inform us dinner was ready. I flew down with Drac to the main clearing. “Little one, I am going to go hunting for my own dinner but I will be back soon.” I kissed his spikey spout then he took off, leaving me alone with no one that I really knew then I saw Brom sitting next to Ajihad. Every one stood up as I entered the dining hall, Brom came to get to me and lead me to the main table. I was introduced to all the council members and all other heads in the Varden. “It is good to see you well again Brom, you gave me quite a scare.” He smiled at me, “I am in your debt Eve, and I fear if I had been alone I would never have made it. After dinner would you like to take a walk with me so we could continue our talk?” I nodded quickly, as the night was wearing on, I felt a rage build with me for no reason then I realised it was Drac who was mad and not I. “Brom, something is wrong Drac is very mad but I cannot reach him.” Suddenly I had a feeling to run outside as quick as I could so I did, I jumped over the table and made haste outside to the main yard just I looked up I could see Drac but he was hurt badly.
