Chapter two.

Roran walked me to the spines boarder of trees. “When will I see you again?” I cried, “As soon as I can, you know where we are going so write to me and I will find you. You were never my cousin, always my little sister.” I hugged him tight and kissed his cheek before riding off, I knew of a few great places to sleep for Roran and I had played in here as children. Not long after I started my journey I stopped to set up my bed for the night, I cried myself to sleep thinking about the life that was just stolen from me and just before sleep took me I swore vengeance on the king, for sending his men to my village, for thinking it’s his right to do as he wishes without thought of others. Just as the first rays of light were coming up I packed up my things and set off again, I was not stopping much thru out the day and I wasn’t stopping until it was too dark to go on. Late into my third day I came upon the palm tree I decided to set up camp for the night but just as I was nearly asleep a nearby fight woke me. I quickly packed up and was ready to leave at a moment’s warning, when a white light blinded me when I was finally able to clear my vision I could see a huge white egg sitting in a burnt circle not 10 feet from my horse. I slowly got down and pick it up, it felt cool and smooth to touch but it was very heavy. I put it in my saddle bag and decided to keep going a little more before finally stopping then I made my bed again it did not take long for sleep to take me but my dreams did not bring me peace either. I dreamed of a young man chained to a table, there were others with him but I think they were there to hurt him. In the morning I woke up to the kings men hovering over me. “What are you doing all the way out here by yourself little girl?” They laughed at me but before I could answer something caught my eye and then out of nowhere Brom appeared, he was my village’s crazy storyteller. “She isn’t alone, I am her father William and she is my daughter Helena. Is there anything I can help you good sirs with?” “We are looking for a white stone that was stolen from the king, have you seen anything like that along your travels?” “I believe we saw something like that last night, maybe 6hours ride from here to the north.” They quickly turned and rode away. “Do not worry Eve, your uncle told me what had happened and asked if I could make sure you reached Terim safely. I must say you made good distance on your own; may I see the stone of which they spoke of?” He asked with a smile, I wasn’t scared of him for I had known him all my life so I opened my saddle bag to show him. “Do you know what this is?” he asked me. “No, I just knew it needed to be kept safe.” As I touched the shell it started to move, he smiled warmly at me. “Do not worry you will not have to wait long. We must go now; I fear the soldiers will not be happy when they work out that I had lied.” He helped me pack up and then we set off for Terim. “Brom why would you risk your life, just to help me? I know my uncle always said that you were to be trusted upon anyone else in the village but why?” he looked sad as I asked him. “How much have you been told about your real parents?” “Almost nothing, my mother left the day I was born and I have never known anything about my father. Do you know about them?” “Yes, I knew them both very well. Your father was my friend since we were children but he was also a dragon rider, and your mother was a beautiful girl with the biggest heart. They fell in love the moment they set eyes on each other but she was already promised to marry another man. It was years later before they finally saw each other again but they weren’t the same people they once were, he had become a dragon rider and she became the kings most elite killer known as the Black Hand. Your father had lost his dragon in a deadly fight against the kings right hand man Morzan, so he set out to find and kill him but when he finally found him he saw that he was your mother’s husband. He took a job as a grounds keeper to try and get closer to her, one night while her husband was away he went to see her. She had told him that he had given her to the king as a present and the king made her serve him. She wasn’t happy in her marriage or even her life so they begun seeing each other in complete secret until the day came that she found out that she was pregnant with you. They both decided to flee back to her home village miles away from the king and his reach. Once they were there they stayed with her brother and his young pregnant wife, they lived happily for a short time but last one night word came in that the king’s men were seen only a day away looking for a woman traitor. As she was told the news she went into labour with you but it was a hard birth and it took all her strength. In the morning she was gone and I don’t think anyone has heard from her since.”
