The Inn Wanders

812 Words
The next morning brought a subtle change to the atmosphere inside the Wandering Sovereign Inn. The wooden walls seemed warmer, the light from the lanterns steadier. Chen Lin could feel the small improvements from the previous guests — the air carried a faint scent of spirit herbs, and the single extra room now felt more solid, more real. He spent the early hours experimenting. Using the Mystic Herb Seeds he had planted outside, tiny sprouts had already grown into small bushes overnight. He carefully harvested a few leaves and added them to the healing basin. The water took on a gentle greenish tint and smelled fresher. Satisfied, he checked the leather-bound notebook. Current Inn Level: 1 (Basic Sanctuary) Guests Hosted: 3 Golden Tickets: 2 Two tickets. Enough for meaningful progress. Chen Lin approached the golden gachapon machine. This time, he inserted both tickets at once. The machine responded with a deeper, more vibrant hum. Golden light swirled intensely, filling the entire hall. The spinning lasted longer than before. When it finally slowed and stopped, two items dropped into the tray. The first was a smooth, obsidian-black stone pulsing with faint energy. Rift Anchor Stone (Low Grade) – Allows the Inn to safely anchor and wander short distances within a dungeon rift once per day. The second item made his breath catch — a delicate silver bracelet with three small empty sockets. Companion Binding Bracelet – Can form a contract with one willing companion. Grants shared minor benefits and basic communication. Chen Lin slipped the bracelet onto his wrist. It felt light but significant—the Rift Anchor Stone he placed on the counter. Understanding flowed through him: he could activate it with a thought. Curious and a little bold, he decided it was time to test the Inn's ability to move. He focused on the stone. A soft vibration ran through the floorboards. The world outside the door blurred for a moment. When it settled, the sounds of the beginner rift had changed. The dangerous roars were farther away. Instead, he heard distant human voices and the clash of weapons — signs of other adventurers exploring. The door opened on its own. A group of three young cultivators stumbled in, exhausted and covered in dirt. Their leader, a sharp-eyed young man holding a cracked spear, froze at the sight of the warm interior. "What the… an inn? Inside the rift?" "Welcome," Chen Lin said calmly from behind the counter. "Neutral ground. Rest and eat. No fighting allowed." The trio hesitated only briefly before collapsing into chairs. Chen Lin served them broth enhanced with the new spirit herbs. As they ate, their wariness slowly melted into relief and curiosity. "You're really the owner?" one of the younger ones asked between bites. "How does a place like this even exist?" Chen Lin offered a small smile. "It wanders where it's needed. That's all I know for now." The group paid with more spirit coins and some low-grade monster materials. When they left an hour later, refreshed and carrying extra healing water, the notebook recorded solid satisfaction. The Inn responded again. A third small room branched off, and a simple wooden bench appeared outside the door under a small overhang. Chen Lin stepped outside for a moment. The beginner rift looked different now — less immediately lethal. In the distance, he could see faint lights from what might be a temporary adventurer camp. The reality of the new world settled more heavily on him. People were already forming groups, guilds, and alliances out there. And somewhere in the city, Su Mei and Wang Teng were probably celebrating their "victory," completely unaware. He clenched his fist. Not yet. He was still too weak. Rushing out now would be suicide. Back inside, he sat at the counter and opened the Management Log. New options had appeared — basic upgrades like expanding the kitchen or strengthening the walls. Everything required more essence, more guests, more time. But time was something he suddenly had in abundance. As evening approached, the wind bells chimed once more. This time, a single figure entered — a woman in a hooded cloak, her presence far sharper than the previous guests. Her eyes scanned the room like a predator assessing safety. She lowered her hood slightly, revealing sharp, beautiful features and long dark hair. A powerful aura radiated from her, restrained but unmistakable. "A sanctuary that moves…" she murmured, almost to herself. Her gaze locked onto Chen Lin. "You are the Host?" Chen Lin met her eyes steadily, though his heart raced. This guest felt different. Stronger. Dangerous. "I am," he replied. "What do you seek?" The woman studied him for a long moment before taking a seat at the counter. "Information. And a safe place to rest for one night. I will pay well." Something told Chen Lin this encounter could change everything.
