THE LIBRARY ENCOUNTER

Chapter 6: The Library Encounter One evening, I caught Sara slipping out of the drawing room with her phone in hand. I silently followed, keeping a distance. She entered the library and whispered, “No, it’s not here… it must be somewhere else.” Her words confirmed my suspicions. She was searching for something specific in my home. But for whom? The floorboard creaked under me. Sara turned, eyes wide with shock, losing her footing. Reflexively, I steadied her, and the momentum caused us both to slide. We came to rest on the soft carpet. Her face hovered near mine, breath warm and steady. For a suspended moment, suspicion and attraction collided. Her lips brushed mine—a spontaneous, soft kiss. Heat surged through me, and I knew she felt it too. Pulling back, her cheeks flushed, eyes avoiding mine. “I… I’m sorry,” she stammered. “Are you okay?” I asked, straightening. “Yes, I… I didn’t expect anyone to be here.” ⸻ Sara’s POV I tried to focus on helping Noah with dinner, but my attention kept drifting to the shadows, to the paintings lining the walls. There was something hidden, and I was determined to find it. Later, Claudia, the housekeeper, approached me with soft footsteps. “Dinner is ready,” she said. I watched her carefully, noting subtle movements. Was she just diligent—or spying? As I guided Noah to the dining table, our hands brushed lightly. A spark, electric and undeniable, passed between us. During dinner, my hands fumbled slightly, spilling juice. My proximity to Noah intensified the moment. Before either of us could speak, James entered, face pale. “Sir, Claudia may be spying… we’re not sure who she’s reporting to,” he said. Sara’s eyes widened. “A spy?” James left, leaving an awkward silence. I glanced at Noah, feeling the tension between us, unspoken words hanging in the air.
