Chapter 3: The Marriage Agreement Cathy ran to Lucille, panic in her eyes. “I just got off the phone with the Dempsey family butler! They’re on their way here. You said you’d get me out of this engagement! I will not marry Noah Dempsey!” Lucille’s lips curled into a sly smile. “Who said anything about you marrying Noah Dempsey? The contract didn’t specify which daughter. Sara will marry him instead.” Realization dawned on Cathy. “Oh, Mother, you’re so smart.” I overheard Lucille: “Marry the true heir and leave the trash to Sara.” My heart raced. Marrying Noah Dempsey would give me access to his estate and my mother’s paintings. I couldn’t let them know I favored the idea. Feigning fear, I approached them. “I… I can’t marry him.” Lucille and Cathy exchanged amused glances, convinced of my reluctance. They laughed as I sank to the floor, pretending to be overwhelmed. Then, the front door creaked open. A man in a wheelchair entered, sunglasses hiding his gaze. So, this is Noah Dempsey, I thought, noting his chiseled features. Despite his blindness and inability to walk, he was undeniably attractive. Lucille extended her hand. “Noah Dempsey, I presume?” He nodded slightly. “Yes, I’m here for Cathy Shelton. I believe we have a marriage agreement.” Before Cathy could protest, Lucille interjected: “You’ll marry Sara instead!” Without warning, Lucille shoved me toward Noah. My heart pounded as I stood before him, squared shoulders meeting her gaze. “I never agreed to this,” I said firmly
