Chapter Eleven

819 Words
It's Monday Aria and Jenna are in the office, working. Jenna is clearly struggling to stay awake, and Aria can't help but notice. She smirks, already knowing the reason—Jenna had spent the entire weekend at Victor’s place. “Late night?” Aria teases, raising an eyebrow as she types on her computer. Jenna yawns, rubbing her eyes. “You have no idea. Victor kept me up all night.” Aria chuckles. “I don’t think I want to know the details.” Jenna playfully nudges her. “It’s not what you think! We watched movies, talked… okay, maybe some of what you’re thinking too.” Aria shakes her head, amused. "No wonder you're barely keeping your eyes open. Need coffee?" Jenna sighs dramatically. “Yes, please. Or else I might collapse on this desk.” As Aria gets up to grab coffee, she suddenly spots Adrian walking past their workspace. Their eyes meet for the briefest moment, but she quickly looks away, pretending to be busy. Just when she thinks she’s in the clear, her phone vibrates. A message pops up. "You look good today. Hope you had a restful weekend." It’s from Adrian. Aria stares at the screen, heart pounding. Why does he always do this? Just when she’s trying to move on, he finds a way to slip back into her mind. She exhales, debating whether to reply or ignore him. Meanwhile, Jenna, oblivious to Aria’s dilemma, stretches and mumbles, “I swear, if I close my eyes for two seconds, I’m out.” Aria forces a smile, slipping her phone into her pocket. "Come on, let’s get that coffee before you start snoring at your desk." The day is just beginning, but Aria already knows—it’s going to be a long one. As lunchtime approached, Jenna stretched her arms and yawned, still feeling the exhaustion from her weekend at Victor’s place. She turned to Aria, a sly smile creeping onto her lips. “So… how did it go this weekend?” she asked, nudging Aria playfully. “Did Noah drop you off after the party, or did you two have a little late-night moment?” Aria shook her head, letting out a small chuckle. “No, I turned down his offer to drop me off. I just wanted to go home alone and rest.” Jenna raised a brow. “Seriously? You haven’t seen the guy in how long, and you just let him drive off into the night?” Aria sighed, leaning back in her chair. “It’s not that simple, Jenna. We have history. And yeah, it was nice catching up, but I don’t know… should I even consider taking him back?” Jenna folded her arms, her expression thoughtful. “Well, that depends. Do you still have feelings for him, or was it just nostalgia hitting you at the party?” Aria hesitated, her fingers absentmindedly tapping against her desk. “I don’t know. I mean, seeing him again reminded me of the good times we had, but it also reminded me of why we broke up. We were always in this on-and-off cycle. He was always so distant, and we barely talked for days sometimes.” Jenna nodded. “That’s true. But he’s here now. No more long-distance excuses. Maybe this is his way of making things right?” Aria sighed. “Maybe. He did text me, asking if he could pick me up after work today.” Jenna’s eyes widened in excitement. “And? What did you say?” Aria smirked. “I said yes.” Jenna grinned. “Good. Now, let’s see if he really means business this time.” As Jenna and Aria continued their conversation, Aria’s phone buzzed again. Assuming it was Noah, she reached for it with a small smile. But as soon as she saw the name on the screen, her expression shifted. It was Adrian. The message read: I hope you’re not overworking yourself. Don’t forget to take a break. Aria stared at the message for a moment, her fingers hovering over the screen. Why did he always do this? Every time she tried to distance herself, he found a way to remind her of his presence. Jenna noticed her hesitation. “Adrian?” she guessed. Aria nodded, locking her phone without replying. “Yeah.” Jenna sighed. “He’s acting weird again, isn’t he?” Aria exhaled, shaking her head. “I don’t know what he wants from me. I mean, he has a wife, he has a family. So why does he keep doing this?” Jenna gave her a knowing look. “Because he knows he has an effect on you.” Aria scoffed. “Well, I’m done letting him play with my head.” She shoved her phone aside and turned her focus back to her work. Tonight, she was meeting Noah, and that was all that mattered.
