Chloe’s POV
Mae was parked in front of my apartment building when I pulled up outside, she was leaning against her car, arms folded watching me, eyes cold. I slowly walked over, narrowing my eyes. “Hey…” I said softly as I walked up, she let out a sigh and looked away for a moment before looking back at me. “There’s been news, I knew were being watched but I didn’t know exactly how much. As far as I know, my father doesn’t know yet that I’m helping you, but I think he’s starting to get an idea.” Mae pressed her lips together and looked around before looking back at me again, I hesitated to respond. “What do you think he’s going to do?” I asked. Mae shook her head, “My brother called me earlier, he didn’t give me any more details other than that there was going to be a Christmas ball coming up. I must help you get ready, we are going to go.” She stated as she moved her arms to shove into her pockets. I stared at her in disbelief, “ Your father is watching us and instead of backing off you want me to head full force into everything?” I asked. She looked away again as she responded. “If we just give up, he will think he won.” I knew she was right, I couldn’t stop. We couldn’t let him think he won.
Mae left a couple of minutes later saying she needed to go find a few things to get for her father. I went up to my apartment and started putting up the winter decorations. As I was putting up the garland on the fireplace, my phone started ringing.
I quickly pulled it out, “Hello?” I asked as I answered it. “Chloe.” my heart stopped, I didn’t even look at the caller's ID before answering the phone. “William? Where are you? Are you okay?” I asked. There was no answer. After a long moment of silence, I heard a muffled voice, then someone else’s voice came on the phone “where is your sweet love now?” It was a deep voice. I recognized it. Belonging to his father, I didn’t know how to respond, so I didn’t. After a minute, the voice continued “I know my daughter has been talking to you, she wants to help you. My son knows, and so do I." I heard a muffled laugh, then a cough in the background. “Where is William?” I asked, worry growing in my voice. “That’s of no concern of yours, but I will tell you one thing. Come to my Christmas party, I’m sure it will…drive you crazy.” He said before hanging up.
William’s POV
I started directly at my father in shock, the ropes tied around my wrists. I glared at him and then looked at the two men standing next to him that were facing me, sure to take me back if I tried to run. Mina wanted this life. I didn’t know I had made a deal with the devil when I left work this afternoon. She called him, she called my father after I tried to make her that offer. They knew I would have done it, my father set the whole thing up.
I watched in horror as my father talked to Chloe, telling her to come to the ball. A little sweat rolled down my forehead and I watched as the two men came over to me and lifted me up. Father turned and was looking at me, grinning, he walked over slowly and looked down at me. “You are going to do what I want, whether you want to or not.” He turned and started walking away, before opening the door he looked over his shoulder “give them to him.” I stared at my father as a sharp pain hit my neck, my vision blurred and went black.
