Ruby Caleb was here and he said he loved me. I'm not even sure if this is real or not. For all I know, this could be a cruel trick of the mind. He doesn't answer me when I call out to him. I just hear his voice here with me. Here in the dark, bringing with it some sense of comfort. There are more voices. Why do I hear more voices? They are here but I just can't make out what they are saying. Nothing is clear. It's just a blended sound of high tones and base notes. Then silence. After a while, the sound of footsteps fills the void like a slow clap. I listen, remaining alert. Then nothing. My frustrations bubble to the surface like a pot of water left to boil on top of a stove. I try yelling, thrashing around, anything to grab the attention of someone. A little earlier, I felt nothing.
