Another Detour

Peter and Emily walked outside in their garden when they noticed the royal plane nearing the airstrip. "What are Skylar and James doing stopping here now? We are supposed to be one of the last stops before they head to the royal city. Something has changed, and not for the better," Peter said as they headed towards the plane.  As everyone disembarked, Emily waited for her granddaughters. James stepped off the plane with a stoic look on his face.  "What is wrong?" Peter asked soberly.  James shook his head, "I don't know. Skylar and Sadie are keeping their lips closed." Sadie walked down the steps carrying Billy with Dylan by her side. "Lolli, we need the use of the power barrier room before we talk about anything."  Skylar finally exited the plane carrying the twins. She didn't look at anyone as she walked towards the mansion. This was not where she planned to be right now. There had to be more to the story than they knew. Skylar tried to think about anything other than the news about Taina.  Emily and Peter exchanged a worried look before Emily began to lead their family inside. Peter watched at his granddaughters and great-grandchildren as he followed his wife into their home. Something strange was going on, but no one seemed to be talking about it.  Peter sped up and walked around the group as they approached a steel door that was locked. He told the guard to open the door and not let anyone outside of that group in the room.  Skylar, James, Sadie, Dylan, the four elemental guardians, Beth, Becky, and the babies all entered the room. The rest of their party went with a butler to take the luggage to the rooms.  Beth placed a quilt on the floor in one of the corners and took the twins from Skylar, and placed them on the quilt. Becky took Billy from Sadie and put him on the blanket as well.  "Are you positive that no powers can break through the barrier of this room?" Skylar questioned as she walked around the room.  Emily nodded, "Yes, we are certain that no power of any kind can get through the walls or even be used in this room." Sadie breathed a sigh of relief as she and Dylan took a seat at the table. James and the guardians, as well as Becky, took a seat. While Skylar shook her head and continued to walk around the room looking and feeling for any weak spots.  "Honey, this is the safest room anywhere. Please tell us what is going on," James said softly as he took Skylar by the hand and pulled her to the chair next to him.  Skylar finally pulled the backpack off her back and opened it to remove the Lupinomicon. "Taina took Tabitha's place before Dylan could marry her. It is all confusing, but Taina is the lost goddess."  Dylan jumped out of his chair and yelled, "What are you talking about? Tabitha was with me the whole time until she left when I met Sadie. This is impossible." Dylan slowly sat back down, "I... I... Well, that could explain a few things now. She didn't want to be called Taina until after she called off the wedding. She wanted to travel the world all of a sudden instead of staying to take our parents places like we were raised to do."  "Why did those things not alarm you at the time?" James asked Dylan.  Dylan shook his head, "Everything seems fuzzy. I remember her changing her mind about the wedding a couple of times before that day. She would tell me that she wanted to wait for her mate. Tabitha was always one for love and romance. Then the day of the wedding came, and I thought she was determined to find her mate. I figured that it was for the best."  Skylar frowned, "I don't understand why she would help us kill another goddess, though. I know that even after all the things that Cordelia did that Cassandra regretted her death. I think that is why she wanted to be human, or they took all her powers. She didn't want to remember." Sadie shook her head, "There has to be more to Taina than we know. Lolli, have you heard of her before?" Emily looked at Peter, but he just shook his head. "I have heard of her before. I can't answer any of your questions." "I met her before, I wish I had answers that would help you, but I don't," Peter said before he exited the safe room.  Emily watched her husband go; tears began to fall from her eyes as he closed the door.  James sat up a little straighter in his chair, "Emily, what are you not telling us?" "It isn't my story to tell. I wish that I could, but honestly, I don't know the full story," Emily said softly.  Dylan nodded, "I understand, but this goddess pretended to be my best friend, my mate, my everything for months. I need answers. I need to know what happened to Tabitha, why she chose Tabitha's place to take. Taina had to have more reasons than we can list."  Emily smiled through her tears, "All I can tell you is that everything will come to light when it is supposed to." Then she got up from the table and walked out the door as well.  Jerika spoke up, "Why will they not give us any answers?" Dylan shook his head, "I am not sure. I am going to go call my parents and tell them we are safe." "Jerika, we will figure all this out. Skylar, they said no magic powers would work in this room, but the book still worked. What makes it different?" Mitch wondered.  Abby looked at the book and laughed, "We have been looking at this book like it has the same powers as us. It has goddess powers. This room most likely will not protect from Taina powers."  Dalton laughed, "What if the book contains Cassandra's powers, and the only way she can take her throne back is by putting the book fully back together?" "What are we going to do about Taina, and what is she really after?" James stated.  "Our daughter," Skylar stated flatly. "The question is why?"
