The Silence is Deafening

1036 Words
James and Skylar went to talk to Dylan and Sadie.  Skylar shook her head, "I know that we are technically part of the pack anymore, but how can they just close us off with everything that happens?" Sadie laughed humorously, "They know that we need to do what we were born to do." "It doesn't mean that we don't want to protect all of our citizens. Especially them, I know they are my in-laws, but I thought that we had their respect. I was the Beta of the pack since I was barely fifteen. I have a lot to learn, but I learned a lot too. I wish they wouldn't close the door in our faces. We are supposed to help protect them," James shook his head and walked away.  Dylan frowned at the sisters, "I am going to see what I can do to talk to him." Sadie and Skylar nodded. They discussed the fact that this silence was different from the threats that the pack had ever faced. This sign that there were no animals in the forest left them wondering what was about to happen. This was one of the worst times for this to happen. They were planning to go in just a couple of weeks. Finally, Jackson called the family into the living room to talk about what needed to happen. He reluctantly including Skylar, Sadie, James, and Dylan.  No one spoke for a while.  "What do you think is coming?" Melissa finally asked after a long silence.  Jackson shook his head, "What do you expect?" Sarah laughed, "It is so hard to believe that the two of you use to be a couple because you act more like siblings."  Andre smiled, "I agree with that. Now, I think the threat is whoever kidn*pped Marge." Melissa nodded, "Maybe, but it could be something else. We need to be prepared for anything."  "I think we should postpone our tour for a while until we can make sure the threat is behind us," Skylar chimed in.  James shook his head, "We can't do that. We can not put our family above all of the members of our kingdom. We have members all over the world. We owe it to them not to postpone our tour any longer."  Skylar frowned, "This is our family. I know what you are saying, but they could be a threat to the capital as well. Why are we pretending that our family is not the most important pack?" Sadie walked over to Skylar, "We aren't pretending anything. We know they are the most important to us because they should be. But we can't put our family over all the other packs in the world. We already postponed the tours because of our pregnancies. We owe it to the packs to leave as soon as we can."  Skylar stormed out of the room, "I am done talking about this. I am not leaving until we come up with a plan."  Jackson shook his head, "James, you have your hands full with our daughter. Please check on her and see how she is doing. I know this isn't easy for her. It isn't easy for us either. I will call a board meeting for in the morning."  Sarah smiled, "Jackson, we must trust that James can handle his role as Skylar's husband. She acts so much like you that I am worried for them both. They are taking the twins and leaving the only place either of them has ever known. It is a big step for them all. Please try to be understanding and not so pushy."  "I have to be pushy, or else I will not let her go. I feel like such a failure as a father. I let Merlia treat me like a puppet and push Skylar away. I didn't know she was my daughter back then, but I felt so connected, and then you walked into my life, and now I know it wasn't you, but her witchcraft made it so real," Jackson paused, shaking his head. "I can't keep living in the past. We have to move forward."  James shook his head, "Jackson, you are not the only person that pushed her away. Merlia turned everyone against Skylar. The only one that tried to get help was Beth. She couldn't help Skylar, but she was able to help raise Sadie. That is a blessing from the Moon Goddess right there. I am going to see if I can find my beautiful, strong, hard-headed wife and see if I can talk some sense into her." James stood up, heading for the front door.  Sadie laughed, "We can't all be perfect angels." Everyone laughed with her because they all knew she was far from perfect. "We didn't have our parents raise us in a loving home. We were both raised in horrible situations. However, we both turned out to be loving and caring. Skylar may have been with you, Dad, but she didn't have you. I was close to Mom, but I didn't know anything but that small cave. We have been trained over the last few months to serve and protect this pack. Now, you are telling us that we have to hold our heads high and walk away. This unknown silence isn't going to be easy to walk away from." Sadie stood and smiled at each person in the room, "I will see what I can do to get her to finish preparing to leave." Melissa watched Sadie leave the room and turned to Jackson, Sarah, Andre, and Dylan. "I didn't tell any of you. I searched in the Lupinomican to see if I could find anything on the silence, and there are some new entries. I don't want to frighten anyone, but the book is writing itself further than it already had." "We will be taking the Lupinomican with us as we travel. We are hoping to help other packs learn more about themselves as we travel," Dylan stated. "I think we need to let Skylar and James know that new entries are being added."  Jackson nodded, "I agree. I just ask that you wait until after our boarding meeting in the morning."
