Esme.
' Let's get out of here, Ari.' I gritted my teeth as I linked my wolf, my eyes glazed by unwillingness and longing as I took one final glance at the mating arena, before wiping the tears that trailed a path on my face.
I had longed for that very day, I had spent hours shopping, preparing for it, from the outfit, makeup, all the way to the lingerie.
For the last few days, I have been unable to focus on work. All I had been thinking about was the mating ceremony, Cooper.
Days and nights, they had equally been spent on the same thing, fantasising, daydreaming.
I couldn't wait to finally be his mate. I couldn't wait to finally have his mark adorning my neck, wearing it with pride, but most importantly?
I couldn't wait to give him my first, and yet, here I was. With a face streaked with tears, my heartbeat, an erratic mess, and my heart broken beyond repair.
And the ironic part? My Fiancée, or should I say, ex-Fiancée, was in the mating arena, by then, probably, canines buried into Gina's neck, and if impatience won, his balls deeply buried inside her charity c*nt! They were probably moaning into each other's ears...
"F*ck!" I cursed audibly. Thinking about Cooper and what he was probably doing with Gina wasn't helping at all. If that went on, I would probably end up fainting from the anger.
It was laughable, wasn't it? I had personally pushed them into each other's arms, I had plotted their encounter, and yet, I couldn't sit with the outcome.
But what option did I have? He had betrayed me. All the years of love and devotion that he had shown me had been nothing but a lie.
He had only been with me for what I was, for the value that I added in his life, and not who I was as a person.
He hated me, and Gina was the woman he loved. So, I decided to drive them into each other's arms, to fulfil their biggest wish.
As for Cooper's desire to become the pack's beta? He could forget about it.
He wanted to mark me, claim the title, and then discard me? Fine! But even fate was against him.
I couldn't wait to see theclook on his face when he found out that Gina, his little lover, was the one who he had marked and not me.
I could even picture the frustration, the anger, and the bitterness that would cloud his face when he found out that the careful scheme that he had spent years plotting was foiled.
And if he thought that failing to become Sharp Ridge's beta was the worst that could happen to him, then he would be utterly mistaken.
For killing my parents, for every single lie, every deception, he deserved a fate worse than death, and I was going to make sure he enjoyed the process, thoroughly.
As for the plans that he had for me? Paying a rogue to r*pe me, accuse me of infidelity, have me locked up in the cell, and then send a hundred and ten rogues to r*pe me, every day? I would make sure that the plan went through, smoothly, but this time, he would be the main character, locked up, and entertaining the rogues, while I sat outside the ring, adjusting the plot as I saw fit.
I couldn't wait to see him break, to the point that he didn't have any dignity left. With that thought in mind, a cold glint crossed my eyes, and I unclench my fingers, taking long strides from the mating arena. I had no business there, clearly.
" Who knew that you would turn out to be this cruel, little Esme?" Just then, before I could create a safe distance between me and the chaos behind me, the moans, skins meeting skins, howls tearing through the sky, wolves claiming their mates, surrendering to the moon goddess's wish of coupling, something that I wasn't graced with, a very familiar voice called out, and I paused in my tracks, freezing in place.
" You have just launched chaos, and while the fire is burning, you are escaping, unscathed, innocently. " One voice pushed me into a daze, and before I could respond, the other one pulled me out, his eyes filled with fire as he looked at me.
Taking a deep breath to compose myself, I lifted my head, only for my gaze to meet theirs.
Two hot and sinfully handsome male wolves. They were twins, our Pack's Alpha twins.
Theo and Atlas.
They were back.
They were hot, no, that was an understatement. They were sinfully alluring, perfect no matter which angle you looked at, but that was not all.
They were shirtless, seemingly, from a run, with clear beads of sweat outlining their abs, and their thick, heavily built, and all-muscled-up frames.
They looked powerful, appetising, and for the first time, a nasty idea clouded my senses, but soon,
My wolf became restless, jumpy, and all needy, and then a scent hit me, the most appetising scent ever.
It was the mouth-watering smell of fresh coffee, warm and soothing, wafting through my nose, all the way to the very bones, and the world around me faded.
Theo and Atlas, they were all I could see, all I wanted, and everything that my body craved.
Foreign heat burned through my body, with heaven-defying intensity, and before the whole reality could register, the words left my mouth.
"Mates." All needy and hungry, the words echoed around me, and I felt exposed, too seen.
" Mate!" Two hungry roars filtered through the air, and with huge strides, they came forward, circling me.
" It's been five years, Esme." Now in front of me, the older twin, Theo, spoke, his hot breath fanning my neck and goosebumps lined my skin, igniting with them a foreign craving, deep and untamable, and I found myself looking up, locking my gaze with Theo's blue orbs.
" And I like the mark of time on you, little Esme, " He whispered, his voice, clouded by desires, his right hand closing around my waist as he tagged me closer to him.
" And I love how cruel you have become, mate." I hadn't seen Atlas moving. I only heard his voice before he took my earlobe into his lips, nibbling at it softly, igniting a wave of lust within me, and a soft whimper left my lips, but it was more like a moan, which had my face going pale from the embarrassment.
" We have waited for so long, Esme. It's about time we claim you."
" You are ours, after all."
" You have always been."
