LENA'S POV: THE NEXT MORNING Sunlight hit my face softly. I groaned Slightly and shifted against something warm then froze… My eyes opened Slowly. I Saw leather seats and tinted windows. Strong arms wrapped loosely around my waist and Ethan was asleep beside me. Memory Slammed into me instantly. Oh my God. Panic flooded my Chest so fast I Could barely breathe. What did I do? I Pulled back slightly, Staring at him in horror. His head rested against the Seat, his dark hair was Slightly messy. And he looked so Peaceful while Sleeping. My Chest tightened unexpectedly. Last night came rushing back Piece by Piece. The Club. The talking. The kissing. And everything after it… Heat flooded my face violently. I had a one-night Stand with a complete Stranger? Tears Suddenly burned behind my eyes. What was wrong with me? This wasn’t me… I wasn’t reckless. I wasn’t this kind of girl. I Pressed trembling fingers against my lips trying to Steady myself. Ethan Shifted slightly beside me. Panic exploded through me instantly… Before he Could wake up, I Scrambled carefully away from him. My movements were rushed and Clumsy. I grabbed my bag from the Seat quickly. My heart Pounded so loudly I thought it might wake him… I glanced at him one last time. Still asleep…. Thank God. A Strange ache hit my chest unexpectedly. Because despite everything… last night had felt real. And that terrified me most of all.. I quickly wore my Clothes. I unlocked the Car door carefully and Slipped outside. Cold morning air hit my skin instantly. The Street was quiet. Gray skies Stretched overhead… I looked back once. Then forced myself to walk away fast until I turned the Corner and the car disappeared from view Completely. Only then did I Stop walking… My breathing Shook violently. What have I done? My Phone buzzed Suddenly. JUNE.. I answered immediately. “Hello?” “LENA HART!” June Shouted. “WHERE ARE YOU?!” I winced. “I’m okay.” “You disappeared all night!” “I know.” “Did you Cry yourself unconscious Somewhere?!” I hesitated. Then June gasped dramatically. “Oh my God.” “June—” “You did Something bad.” “No I didn’t.” “You absolutely did Something.” Heat flooded my face again. “I’m hanging up.” “LENA.” I Covered my eyes briefly. “I made a mistake.” June went silent. “What kind of mistake?” She finally talked. My throat tightened. “The worst kind.” ETHAN’S POV The first thing I noticed as I woke up was that She was gone. My eyes opened Slowly as sunlight filtered through the tinted windows. For a moment, I just Stared blankly at the Space she’d occupied hours ago. Then reality Settled heavily into my Chest. She left… A Strange disappointment hit me harder than it Should have. I sat up Slowly and looked around outside the windows instinctively like she might Somehow still be nearby. I found nothing. Only morning traffic beginning to fill the Streets… I exhaled quietly and rubbed a hand across my face. You i***t. I didn’t even get her number. The realization annoyed me immediately which was unusual… I never lost Control like that. Never got emotionally attached to temporary moments. Yet Somehow one night with her already felt impossible to ignore… I leaned back against the Seat thinking about her laugh. Her tears. The way she begged me to stop. The way she looked at me, my jaw tightened Slightly. I Should’ve asked more questions. Should’ve woken up early to Stop her from leaving somehow. A knock Suddenly Came against the window. It was my driver… “Sir?” I opened the door and Stepped out. “Your father Called twice.” I glanced back at the empty car one final time. Something about it felt Strangely hollow now. “Cancel my morning meetings,” I said Suddenly. The driver blinked. “Sir?” “I’m going Somewhere first.” “Where?” I looked around the area and for the first time in years, I found myself wanting Something I couldn’t immediately have. “Back to the club,” I answered quietly. Then I Shut the car door and Climbed back inside.
