CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE Justin tried not to limp too much as they started the walk back to town. On the main street, they passed a street vendor selling crepes. “Can I have one, Mummy?” Megan asked. There was a cardboard sign offering Nutella as one of the toppings. “With Nutella,” Megan added as her eyes fell on the picture of something she actually recognised. “We’ll all have one, shall we?” Justin suggested. There was nowhere to sit down. They were forced to eat where they stood. Justin’s leg throbbed, but he chose to suffer on silence. He wasn’t sure how much sympathy he’d receive and didn’t want to risk disappointment. As they ate, two little girls approached, one with her hands cupped. They looked as though they had been walking across the Sahara for days their clothes were so dust
