Elena walked slowly down the quiet corridor beside Harrison, still carrying Lucas in her arms. Lucas had been unusually quiet for a while, but suddenly he stretched his small hands toward the tall alpha with an innocent smile on his face.
“Thank you, Alpha Harrison. I can walk on my own now,” Elena said softly, her voice laced with embarrassment. She could feel her cheeks growing warm under Harrison’s gaze.
But Lucas grinned even wider and looked straight at Harrison. “Daddy, Mommy is just shy. She said she likes a man with strong arms.”
Elena’s face turned bright red in an instant. She nearly stumbled over her own feet. “Honey, that was just a joke. Lucas is only six. Please do not mind what he says.”
She wanted the ground to open up and swallow her whole. The awkwardness was unbearable.
Harrison looked at the boy first, then shifted his dark eyes to Elena. For a brief moment, a small, rare smile touched his usually stern lips. “I don’t mind,” he said, his deep voice surprisingly gentle. “He is cute.”
Elena felt completely flustered. She adjusted Lucas in her arms, avoiding Harrison’s intense stare. “I… I thought you would be as savage as last night,” she mumbled, trying to change the subject.
Harrison raised an eyebrow, looking slightly amused. “You thought I would be savage?”
“No, of course not,” Elena said quickly, her voice barely above a whisper. “You have helped me twice already. You are a good man.”
“Good man,” Harrison repeated slowly, as if the words were foreign to him. “That is a new compliment for me.”
Elena’s cheeks burned even hotter. She could not handle the way he was looking at her, it was too intense, too confusing. “Sorry. I have to go.”
She turned quickly and hurried down the hallway with Lucas, her heart pounding so hard she could hear it in her ears. The ruthless alpha everyone feared had just smiled because of her son’s innocent words. The moment left her feeling a strange mix of nervousness and warmth she did not want to examine too closely.
Harrison remained standing in the corridor, watching her leave with an unreadable expression.
One of his warriors, who had been waiting a respectful distance away, stepped forward cautiously. “Alpha, that kid is only six. If she is really the woman from seven years ago, then he is…”
The warrior hesitated, choosing his next words very carefully. “That is impossible. Don’t forget, you are infertile after the war. Doctor Wood said it was not one hundred percent certain, but still…”
Harrison stayed completely silent, his eyes still fixed in the direction Elena had disappeared.
The warrior swallowed and continued, “Alpha, what are you going to do about her?”
Harrison was quiet for a long moment. The corridor felt heavier under the weight of his presence. Then he spoke in a low, firm voice that left no room for doubt.
“I want that maid.”
The words had barely left his mouth when rapid footsteps echoed down the hallway. Matthew and Lila came walking toward him fast. Matthew’s face was flushed with anger, while Lila looked shocked but also excited at the chance to stir up drama.
Matthew stopped a short distance away and pointed aggressively at his brother. “You can’t be serious right now, Alpha Harrison. That b***h is just a maid. She’s way beneath you. Don’t even think about it.”
Harrison’s expression turned ice cold. “Watch your mouth.”
Matthew let out a sharp, bitter laugh, trying to act like he still had some control. “Look, I appreciate you coming to my engagement party. Really, I do. Ask me for anything else. Anything at all. But Elena? I can’t give her to you. She belongs to me.”
Harrison stared directly at his younger brother, completely unfazed. “I’m not asking for your permission. You know very well that I’ll just take anything I want.”
The tension in the corridor grew thick and heavy. Lila saw her opportunity and quickly stepped forward, her voice dripping with fake sweetness. “Okay, she can be yours after the party if that’s what you really want. But that b***h… I mean, Elena… she already has a bastard son. Are you sure you’re okay with that? She has a child with someone else.”
She said the last part slowly and deliberately, clearly hoping the information would disgust Harrison and make him lose interest.
The hallway went completely silent. Both Matthew and Lila watched him closely, waiting for his reaction.
Harrison stayed quiet for a few seconds. Then the corner of his mouth lifted into a small, dangerous smile. His dark eyes gleamed with confidence.
“Yeah,” he said in his deep, steady voice. “A son is exactly what I need.”
Matthew’s face went pale. Lila looked completely stunned, her mouth slightly open in disbelief. They had thrown the information about Elena having a child at him like a weapon, expecting it to end the conversation. Instead, Harrison had accepted it without hesitation. He even seemed satisfied with the news.
Harrison did not bother explaining himself or waiting for their response. He simply turned around and walked away with powerful, unhurried steps, leaving both Matthew and Lila standing there frozen in shock and growing fury.
