Jasmine A motorcycle rumbled, and the garage door juddered open then closed. I anticipated a pair of heavy boots to follow and the door I positioned myself in view of to swing wide. I waited. I glanced up from the sentence I’d read, reread and still hadn’t absorbed. Nothing. Maybe he had things to do in the garage? Or maybe he had a change of heart. I tried to shirk off the gnawing insecurity, but it followed me all day like a hornet, buzzing and threatening to sting. Did he regret this whole arrangement, regret letting me into his home? I wasn’t merely a second chance mate and a possible reminder of the she-wolf who spurned him. I came with a child and a whole heap of baggage – the emotional and dangerous kind. What twenty-four-year-old wolf male wanted to deal with any of that? A
