Chapter 3I scrambled backwards like a crab and got to my feet just as the half a gate came down with a resounding thud I could feel from my heels to the base of my skull. “What the f**k?” There was no warm southern charm in the bulldozer operator’s question, in his voice. No accent from the state we were in or the ones surrounding, just the heat of anger and a growl. “Is something wrong with you?” he asked. I hadn’t been flattened like a cartoon coyote or shattered into pieces like Humpty Dumpty, but that likely wasn’t what he was asking. “Idiot.” The only thing that dripped like honey was sweat from two bushy dark auburn brows that came together in hostility not hospitality.
