The Library and the Trap Door

1128 Words
It was nice to see Violet moving around a bit more naturally after finding out what had happened to her and putting her shoulder back in place. She was always such a spirited young lady and she didn't typically dress the way she was today which made me wonder if she was telling me everything but I wanted to see how things played out today. It didn't take us long to get to the second floor and find the huge stain glass door that lead to the library. Violet was finally seeming to enjoy herself and then when she noticed the doors her joy melted as if she knew something she wasn't saying. I reached out for the door handle and pulled it open for her to enter ahead of me. Bowing with a welcoming hand gesture, she giggled and pranced into the room to lead the way to the history section. Violet knew where pretty much everything was in the library, when anyone was looking for her this is typically where you could find her. Well.... if you knew your way around or got lucky that is... she could dissappear in here for days at a time if she wanted to but I don't think there's much more for her to read anymore. She's the biggest book worm in our tribe as to what I know. "Down here!! We'll look through the royalty books first!!" she ran as fast as she could one way, then another and finally into a corner that had books covering a stairway and a rug in front of a fireplace covered in books also. "Wow, this is beautiful!" I had never been to this part of the library before, it had a sky light and some artistic windows. I bet it would be amazing to lay here at night and gaze up at the moon and starts. "So.... What exactly are you looking for?" she looked at me matter of factly with a cute smirk on her face. "Did you notice when the original 25 transformed for the first time how there was a morph that looked just like me? I want to find out who that was so I can try to figure out who my family is." She didn't look like she was sure of how to answer this question but she sat down and started looking through a stack of books. When she stopped, she handed me an open book with two pictures each on a separate page. It looked to be the 25 as their normal selves and then them as their morphs plus names at the bottom of the pages!! This was so exciting, I couldn't wait to show these to Jack and talk to everyone at home about what I'd discovered. I put a book mark I had been given in the spot with the pictures and slipped it into my backpack. "What else did you want to know?" she pushed for more... "Are there books on the royals? Pictures and history of the family's through the years?" I wasn't sure how to word it. "I'm sure I've seen something like that before...." she started looking through the stack again and mumbling to herself as she went.... I started to gaze out the window and noticed a group of warriors heading back towards the castle which was strange since they usually went scouting early and didn't come back until night fall. While I had been distracted with the window Violet had moved over to the staircase and started rummaging through another pile of books. "I think this is it... or no... maybe this one.... just a moment...." I turned around and started walking toward the pathways that we wandered down to get here. As I rounded a corner I saw a skinny unkempt man heading our way fast with an axe dragging behind him! I turned on my heels and ran as fast as I could go.... "I found it! Here it is!" she squealed as I grabbed my bag and slid the book in it, grabbing her arm to get her in stride with me..... "No time!! The guy that hurt you is right behind us with an axe!!" He was skinny but large, very large and had a hard time following us up the stairscase since it was a rather small iron stairway that led to a hole in the ceiling. The room was a bit dark that it led to and there were piles of books absolutely everywhere, I was having a hard time navigating through them. Violet got ahead of me and led the way easily as if she had done this a trillion times. When she stopped we were at a door and the man was trying make the hole larger with his axe to fit through. She started moving books blocking the door slowly and I walked over to the door nob not wanting to wait. As the man broke through the floor, Violets face went white with terror and I shoved the books out of the way to open the door. Scooping her up in my arms and shutting the door behind me I could see the tears well up in her eyes, I wasn't sure what was going on at this point but I knew we had to get out of there. I rummaged through the room found another door, as I opened it we heard a smash against the first door and started to move things around so I could attempt to block the door. I had no idea what we were going to do since there were no windows or any other doors in either of the rooms we were trapped in. All I could do was try to find something heavy to block the door and hope that someone heard all the racket and comes to save us. I think we're in a closet of some type.... rolled up rugs... shelves... books... and one desk in the strangest place a desk could be?? I started tossing the rugs over by the door and piling shelves on top of each other to keep the rugs in place, I put a mop handle through the door handle in hopes it would hold because it sounded as if the man had broken through the other door. SMASH!! Yep, here he comes.... "Violet! Help me move this desk!!" we rushed over to the desk I had unburied and pushed hard but it wouldn't budge.... "Come over here!" we moved to a different side and pushed again.... this time the desk slid over and we fell into a hole sliding down a passage way as the desk slid back into place with a click as if it sealed itself, maybe?
