CHAPTER 5

1224 Words
The evening wore on,with Diana struggling to maintain her composure. She knew she had to play her role of a perfect wife, but it was getting harder and harder to pretend that everything was fine. As she stood at the bar nursing a glass of champagne, Diana couldn't help but wonder what other secrets Julian was keeping from her, and whether she was just a prop in his life. Then, all of a sudden a tall handsome looking young man with light blue eyes and thin lips and a facial feature worthy of being called the most handsome man on earth, walked towards Diana as she was just there alone sipping her glass of champagne and feeling so left out. The young man's eyes locked onto Diana's, and he smiled, His chiseled features softening. “Mind If I Join You?” He asked, his voice low and smooth. Diana's heart skipped a bit, as she took in the stranger's breathtaking appearance. She shook her head, feeling a little flustered, “ Not at all.” she replied, trying to sound casual. The young man sat down beside her.”I'm Josh." He said, extending his hand. Diana took it, feeling a spark of electricity as their palms touched. “I'm Diana.” She replied, her voice barely above a whisper. As they chatted, Diana found herself drawn to Josh's charming and witty conversation. They laughed and joked, and for a moment, Diana forgot about the crowd and the noise. But just as Diana was starting to feel a connection with Josh. Julian appeared, his expression darkening as he took in the scene before him. “ Diana, What's going on here?” He demanded, his voice cold. Josh stood up, his eyes never leaving Julian's. “ Just making friends with the lovely Mrs Gibson.” He said, his tone laced with sarcasm. Julian's eyes narrowed. “ I didn't know you were acquainted with my wife.” He said, his voice dripping with hostility. Josh smiled, his eyes glinted with amusement. “ Oh! I think we're just getting started.” He said. The air between the two men seemed to vibrate with tension, and Diana felt a shiver run down her spine. “ Diana, I think it's time we made our excuses.” Julian said in a tight voice. Diana was taken aback by Julian's tone. She didn't understand why he seemed so… possessive. “ Oh Julian, I was just getting to know Josh," she said, trying to lighten up the mood. “Josh????” Julian said, his voice filled with sarcasm and jealousy. His expression worsened even more. He nodded curtly at Josh, and took Diana's arm, steering her away. As Julian steered Diana away from Josh, Emily watched across the room, her eyes flashing with anger. She had been enjoying her conversation with Julian, and she didn't like it when he left her side to go talk to his wife. Emily's face darkened as she watched Julian's possessive behaviour towards Diana. She didn't understand why he was acting that way, especially after the way he had been flirting with her earlier. “Looks like someone's got a new toy to play with.” Emily muttered to herself, in sarcasm. As she watched Julian and Diana walk away, Emily felt a pang of jealousy. She had grown accustomed to being the center of Julian's attention, and she didn't like sharing him with anyone. Emily's anger simmered just below the surface as she watched the couple disappear into the crowd. She knew she had to keep her cool, but she couldn't help feeling like she was losing her grip on Julian. While they walked away, Diana glanced back over her shoulder, catching Josh's eye. He smiled and nodded, and Diana felt a flutter in her chest. What was going on with Julian, and why did he seem so jealous? Diana couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. “Julian, What's wrong?” Diana asked, trying to pull her arm free. But Julian's grip only tightened. “Let's just get out of here.” He said, his voice low and urgent. Diana's instincts told her to resist, but she didn't want to make a scene. So she followed Julian, her mind racing with questions. But as they stepped out into the darkness, Diana realized that she wasn't sure where they were going. Or what Julian's intentions were. “ Julian, slow down.” She said, tugging on his arm. But Julian didn't slow down. “ He kept walking, his pace quickening with every step. And then, just as sudden as he had grabbed her arm, Julian stopped. He turned to face Diana, his eyes burning with an inner fire. “ Diana!” He called out, his voice filled with anger. But before he could say another word, the driver drove the car towards them. “ Let's just go home, I'm done here.” They both entered the car and went straight home. As soon as they got home and entered their bedroom, Julian's anger boiled over. “What were you thinking, flirting with a stranger?” he demanded, his voice low and menacing. Diana felt a surge of defensiveness. “I wasn't flirting with him,” she protested. “We were just talking. Besides, you were the one who left me all alone to go talk with your secretary.” she added. But Julian wasn't having it. “You can't even stay for a few minutes without attracting men's attention, can you?” He spat. “ You're like a magnet for every Tom, d**k, and Harry.” Diana's eyes widened in shock, “That's not fair, Julian.” She said, her voice shaking. But Julian wasn't interested in fairness. “ If you can't behave yourself in public, maybe you're not suitable to be my wife.” He threatened. “ Maybe I should just divorce you and be done with it.” Diana felt like she's been slapped. “You wouldn't dare.” She whispered, her heart racing. Julian's face was inches away from hers.” Try me.” He snarled. “I won't tolerate your behaviour next time.” The air was thick with tension as Diana tried to process Julian's words. She felt like she was walking on eggshells, never knowing what would set him off. As the silence between them grew, Diana realized that she was trapped in a marriage that was slowly suffocating her. And she wasn't sure how much longer she could keep up with the pretence. Later that night, as they had gone to bed, Diana felt the urge to be intimate, but didn't know if Julian was going to give in. “It's been four months already since our marriage, but he has never made love to me.” She muttered to herself. she tried moving closer to Julian, placing her hand on his shoulder. “What do you think you're doing?” Julian asked, as he turned immediately he felt Diana's touch. “C’mon Julian, I'm your wife and a human too. What's wrong with being intimate with my husband.?” She replied with a question “I want babies, I want to mother a child for my husband." “You must be joking, you better know your place.” He said, and left the room to go sleep on the couch.
