“She should have been back by now,” Wesley frowned as he looked out of the window half an hour later. We had finished the hot chocolate that Edith had had waiting for us. “Worried?” I asked. “I have to be. She never gives it a second thought.” “She’ll be back. As Mother used to say, bad pennies always find their way home.” We laughed together. “I’m going upstairs and change into something warm,” Wesley said. “That sounds like a good idea,” I agreed as we went up the stairs. Wesley went into Rachel’s room, where he had been sleeping, and I went into what had been Walter’s room. After I took a hot shower to finish getting warm, I dressed in a warm wool sweater and jeans.
