- 23 -Fortunately, Detective Burns determined that a scream from within a domicile created exigent circumstances justifying a forced entry through the front door. This meant that he kicked it in, splintering the frame around the doorknob mechanism. That was all very dramatic, but too bad he didn’t just try the knob, which was unlocked. In any event, I was not sorry to see him come storming in and yell: “Freeze! Police!” Again, unnecessary, at least for me and I was pretty much rendered immobile by Aileen whose boney knees had me pinned on the floor and her weapon of choice, a shard of pottery, kept my rapt attention. Unfortunately, the bop on my head made everything a bit out of focus and it all happened so fast.
